Star Wars Resistance is an American animated science fiction television series created by Dave Filoni, set in the Star Wars Universe. It follows Kazuda Xiono, a New Republic pilot turned Resistance spy, as the threat of the First Order (or Empire 2.0) emerges. The series starts shortly before The Force Awakens and ends before The Rise of Skywalker, connecting the whole sequel trilogy together — which would have been great, had people actually watched the show.

It also serves as Filoni's third animated venture in the Star Wars galaxy. His first show, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which is widely accepted as "peak Star Wars", was cancelled in 2014 when Disney purchased Lucasfilm from Jedi Grand Master George Lucas. After the buy out, Filoni was forced to downgrade his animation to create Star Wars Rebels. After Rebels ended in 2018, Filoni was once again forced to make an even shittier show with an even worse animation style. This was, of course, Star Wars Resistance. Thankfully, it ended after only two seasons, as Disney saw the error in their ways and allowed Filoni to finish off The Clone Wars season seven, which was released in 2020 with its original animation style but even better. Afterwards, Disney stopped making Filoni having to use eye bleeding kids cartoon animation, and allowed for Star Wars: The Bad Batch and Tales of the Jedi to use the beloved, gritty style which was first seen in 2008.

Reception[edit]

With Resistance being one of the few things that even the most die hard fans refuse to watch, reviews and ratings are very biased. The average viewer, being aged below ten, always speaks highly of the show, citing the "cool flying ships" and "Kylo Ren being an absolute badass." Because of this, the first season has a rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics — many of whom were forced to watch the show with their young children, and didn't even watch the show themselves but gave a high score since it's Star Wars and "has to be good, right?" Luckily, its casual score, a 6.7/10, redeems the high praise. Not because people didn't enjoy the show, as how do you enjoy something you haven't watched? But because the rating is actually scoring how much the animation style sucks.

Emily Ashby of Common Sense Media stated that the "downplaying of cartoon violence" really hurt the shows potential, but "after four seasons of Rebels skinny lightsaber duels, at least the space dogfights were watchable." Additionally, after the massive flop of season two, a third season set after the events of The Rise of Skywalker was scrapped so that nobody had to live in a galaxy were Rey Palpatine was a Skywalker. And also so that Dave Filoni could focus all his time into the poorly written live-action series.
