Artist: Weezer
Written by: Rivers Cuomo
Album: Everything Will Be Alright in the End
Rivers Cuomo wrote the song about the British rock-band, The Beatles — and their habits of jerking off together during the early 1960s.
An ode to a Beatles classic[edit]
Cuomo has also said that he thinks of the song as a sort of "sequel song", much like how the Lennon solo song "Woman" (not the Klaatu one — which maybe in itself is a Beatles reference since their "Woman" song was written by a German fella) is a continuation of the Beatle track "Girl".
The song is also inspired by the Lennon penned "Come Together" in which John said;
“ | Come together, over me. | ” |
Until 2014, listeners thought that this lyric was just something random that popped into John's head, much like the entirety of "I am the Walrus". However, Cuomo decrypted the strange sentence and got the idea that John wanted the rest of the Beatles to jizz over him.
The song was also supposed to have a third reference to the British rock-band by being included on the 2016 Weezer (White Album), just like the Beatles White Album. This ended up not being the case. Additionally, it wouldn't have made much sense considering that "Come Together" was on Abbey Road.
Lyrics[edit]
"Welcome to the first level in Hamburg
Our mission is to keep the tradition alive
It's up to us
It's our responsibility
Who else is going to do it?"
This is the night
Light up the fire in the lounge
We're not the boys in the basement of old Harvey Weinstein
One if by photo
Two if they come by video
We'll show 'em we are the true sons of liberty
Punk ass managers tryin' to run the show
Telling me what to do and where to come
Grab your lube 'cause it's time to tell the world
The British are coming
The British are coming
The British are coming
Smear on the soot
Tear up a section of toilet paper
We know we should clean this up
Punk ass parents tryin' to run the show
Telling me what to do and where to come
Get your porn 'cause it's time to tell the world
The British are coming
The British are coming
The British are coming
This is the destiny of The Beatles
We will shake off the rest and slurp up the excess
Come on let's give them everything we have
The British are coming
The British are coming
The British are coming
Reception[edit]
Upon hearing the song, Paul McCartney was "disgusted" that this "weezy" band would make such a song about the best nights that the former Beatle had with his friends. Ringo Starr, on the other hand, approved of the song saying "peace and love, peace and cum".
