Weezerpedia is a rip-off of Wikipedia that was started during Wikimania by Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo after he saw that Wikipedia only had one Weezer-related article. In his quest to turn everything on the internet Weezer-themed, he created this "wiki for and by Weezer". This was only step 1, however, with step 2 being the Spotify clone Weezify, which was created in 2022.

Creation[edit]

During one of his Harvard classes, Rivers was bored and whipped out his binoculars. He looked out the window and could see into the building next door, and using his metal long eyes, peered onto a persons laptop screen and saw that they were on a site called Wikipedia. As this was 2005, with Make Believe releasing later that year, and the fact that Wiki somewhat sounds like Weezer to the untrained ear, Rivers went home and started to code the basics for a new encyclopedia that contained information on the rock-band Weezer (which he was apart of).

It wasn't until 2008 and the release of the Red Album, that Weezerpedia was unleashed into the public domain for all fans to read up on. Unlike his personal website riverscuomo.com which contained many bugs that allowed a knowledgable person to edit the code on the website, Weezerpedia did not contain coding errors; but factual ones.

Controversy[edit]

When Riverpedia isn't a wiki about rivers and lakes.

In 2010 with the release of Hurley, and the pedia's second birthday, fans started to notice that Weezerpedia contained false and made up infomation, as if someone was trying to rewrite history in their favor. Some examples included that Jason Cropper left the band after Brian Bell joined, and that Mikey Welsh was never in the band, only appearing in the music video for "Hash Pipe".

When asked to comment while performing "My Name Is Jonas" with My Chemical Romance, the singer whose real name was not actually Jonas (but was water based), told that he wasn't the one in charge nor ever had any connection to Weezerpedia and instead blamed the creation and false articles on a bunch of hardcore fans trying to capitalize on Wikipedia's behalf.

Karl Koch interview[edit]

Weezer fans know Karl Koch as not just some random guy who is friends with the band and just follows them around to "fit in". He is also called the "band's bitch", not because the band has sex with him, but because he is just a bitch.

Until 2007, Karl had his own namespace on Weezerpedia called; Karl Koch's Korner. This was evidently closed when people started to notice that it spelled out the abbreviation for the Klu Klux Klan. Because of this, Karl could no longer scribble down his experiences with the band to perserve Weezer history, and so, in 2008, a random guy off the street named Matt (no relation to Matt Sharp) interviewed Koch.

Fierce competition[edit]

To convince the public he did not create Weezerpedia, Rivers created yet another online wiki, the decoy website he called Riverpedia. However, this wiki contained no information on Weezer, but only on himself.

In 2022, UnWeezerpedia was created. But being a parody of a parody, it contained actual information.
