“It isn't rad and has no 'tude.”
~ Pitchfork on Raditude
Raditude is the seventh studio album by American rock band Weezer. It was released on November 3, 2009, and was their last album to be released by either DGC Records and Geffen due to Rivers Cuomo punching a producer in the face after not getting steak and salad for lunch. Despite being a weezy word, the title Raditude was actually stolen. Rainn Wilson, who played Dwight on The Office (the American one), said the word when he, Cuomo, and Lakey Boi were on the Weezer Safari Tour, and Rivers liked the word so much that he wrote an entire album to capture the feeling of being "raditude". It remains unknown how Rivers and Rainn became friends, but it could be because their names are both water-related.
Background and recording[edit]
Rivers was paid an undisclosed amount of money to become a pop-star by an unnamed third party. Henceforth, Rivers went to work on writing and recording pop songs, instead of his normal awesome nerd rock songs. Cuomo wrote the song "I'm Your Daddy" after celebrating the birth of his first daughter, despite the final song sounding like he is a creepy old guy. The song "Can't Stop Partying" featured rapper Lil Wayne who sang the lyrics "It's Weezer and it's Weezy", which is now an overused catchphrase for many hardcore Weezer fans.
Reception[edit]
Upon first listens, many longtime fans committed mass suicide — not wanting to live in a world where Weezer was making bad music. Even first-time Weezer listeners, who kept up with the modern pop scene, didn't like this album for its mainstream "Weezer by numbers" feel.
Listeners also did not appreciate the fact that Dr. Luke was bought in to produce the album, as they thought it was offensive to actual doctor's who were not offered the chance to work with Weezer due to being to busy saving peoples lives. Instead, they suggested that band should of got someone with an actual PhD like: Dr. Dre, Dr. Phil, Doctor Who, Dr. Oz, or even Bill Nye the Science Guy, to produce Weezer's ninth and worst album.
Much like Pinkerton, people started to come around on the album. Although, it was only for "If You're Wondering". The other few are quite good also. That is, if you turn down the volume to zero, and plug your ears.
