“GAY!GAY!GAY! DISNEYGAY!”

~ Rivers Cuomo on "Only in Dreams" Songs from the Black Hole

Songs from the Black Hole is the second album from space rock band Weezer, loosely based on Disney's 1979 film The Black Hole. After the release of their first album The Blue Album in 1994, Rivers Cuomo started to work on his next masterpiece. It took him 132 years to make it, though.

Plot[edit]

In the year 2126, the spaceship Retsy II embarks on a galaxy-wide mission. Crew members Wuan (Bell) and Dondó (Sharp) are high, so the ship's captain Jonas (Cuomo), has to sober them up via song. The ship's robot, M1 (Koch), urges the crew to stop singing or it will throw them all out the airlock. Jonas becomes involved in a threesome with so-called "good girl" Laurel (Haden), and the ship's cook, "bad girl" Maria (Wasser), breaking many healthcode violations for the Space Kitchen Police. When the Retsy II reaches its destination, Jonas is unsure what girl he wants to be with, so he asks M1 to throw him out the airlock to end his misery.

Reception[edit]

The reception to Songs from the Black Hole was very negative. So, Rivers built himself a time machine and travelled back to 1996 to make Pinkerton instead. However, Pinkerton was also hated, but Rivers couldn't be bothered to fiddle with time again and just hoped that in years time that people came around to it. They did not.

Songs from the Pink Hole[edit]

Main article: Pinkerton

Some songs from SFTBH were re-used on Weezer's second album Pinkerton since Cuomo could not think of any new material. Songs that didn't make the Pinkerton cut went unheard for years, before Cuomo added them on his solo compliation albums Alone, Alone II, Alone III, as well as a few being added on the 2010 deluxe edition of Pinkerton.

Track listing[edit]

Cuomo couldn't come up with a good order for Songs from the Black Hole, with over fifty track listings being created. Because of this, two random track lists were chosen to be released. Since there was nothing to differentiate the two track lists, it was a lucky-dip while trying to purchase the album.

In the re-worked timeline, Cuomo being sick of people asking what is the real track list order, just chose another random of the fifty orders and called that the offical track listing.
