Death to False Metal is the first compilation album by American rock band Weezer. It was released on November 2, 2010 by Geffen Records. The album comprises several previously unreleased tracks from throughout Weezer's career, with vocalist and guitarist Rivers Cuomo stating that the songs together make an album that should "logically follow Hurley" but instead is just jammed into the Weezer continuity much like the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

Background and recording[edit]

Since 2003, Karl Koch has been compiling B-sides and rarities of unused Weezer songs.

The project, originally known as Pods and Starts was first mentioned by Brian Bell during the summer of 2008 when asked what Weezer project he hopes never sees the light of day. In an interview that took place before the 2009 Summer Tour, the band was asked about the status of Pods and Starts to which Bell replied "What's Odds and Ends?" hoping that the public forgets about its existance. Rivers Cuomo stated that any song that could possibly make it onto the compilation album, was also in contention for a proper album release as Cuomo is too lazy to write new material and would rather rehash older songs.

In August 2010, Brian Bell confirmed that Pods and Starts had been renamed to Death to False Metal. Karl then stated that the compliation album would also release alongside the Pinkerton (Deluxe) reissue.

Death to False Metal contains material from 1993 to 2008, and also includes tracks from the Weezer Mystery Tee.

The song "Turning Up the Radio" was written with the help of a group of Weezer fans that were invited into the studio since Rivers didn't feel like writing a song that day but had to due to his contractual obligations.

Reception[edit]

Since it released with Pinkerton (Deluxe), people bought that over Death to False Metal. The ones that did buy the album enjoyed it as Weezer fans have been asking Rivers to release his unreleased songs for years.
