Forum:Removal of irrelevant Jesus, Satan, and Black Jesus templates
As of this writing there are 205 articles that have the Jesus Approves template attached. Obviously the template is appropriate on articles like Bible and God. I think it's utterly irrelevant on articles like Superman and Idiot.
Therefore and wheretoby I propose we check the template instances and delete it from articles where it is irrelevant. The same thing could be done with the Black Jesus Approves and Satan Approves.
If we decide to implement removal, perhaps we could do a strikeout on the articles that have been de-templated.
Votes to just get a bot to do this
- Ummm...yah...this makes stuff fast. I think Carl has one. --Brigadier General Sir Zombiebaron 00:15, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- Conditional for -- the condition being that a human check the articles for template relevance somehow. Much as I dislike the templates there is some small reason for them to appear on a few articles. ----OEJ 00:21, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- Oh of course. --Brigadier General Sir Zombiebaron 00:23, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- Against. A bot wouldn't discriminate, and would remove all existances of the template, not where we want it to be removed. --Crazyswordsman...With SAVINGS!!!! (T/C) 00:32, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- For. It would be easier to just crush them all and then re-add where necessary. --Uncyclon - Do we still link to BENSON? 08:04, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- Against, although Irrelevant Jesus sounds like a page...--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 12:17, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- Against. It doesn't take very long to do by hand, even if it does spam Recent Changes a bit. And there are a lot of places where it works - people need to make individual decisions for each page. -- 14:40, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

94 templates removed. Zorro rides off into the sunset, happy and contented, looking for a clean bathroom. He leaves the list of de-templated articles up in case someone wants to use it for reference.

I left Rome and Hendrix since the joke kinda works there (Rome is where the Pope lives, and Hendrix is, well, a druggie, and druggies often reference Jesus). But I took all the others out. --Crazyswordsman...With SAVINGS!!!! (T/C) 19:45, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

I might note that if the Satan template is being used to express an opinion about the article -- that it has evil content -- then if it belongs anywhere it is on the article's talk page, along with any other opinions and discussion about article content. ----OEJ 00:42, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Someone caught me removing templates, and called it "vandalism." He had very few edits.
I need someone to vouch for me. I'm sure a lot of you high ranking admins can protect a defenseless me from this. --Crazyswordsman...With SAVINGS!!!! (T/C) 22:54, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- I have no power and no brains, but this was and is a cooperative effort that has been reasonably well-publicized. I would refer anyone who has concerns about this to this VD topic, and to the VFD discussions of Jesus Approves, Black Jesus Approves, and Satan Approves.----OEJ 23:40, 15 January 2007 (UTC) PS: I left a note for the relevant user -- User:Metropolis Anime -- on his talk page. ----OEJ 00:21, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks all
I really, really appreciate you taking the time and effort to do this. In fact, if you removed a whole bunch of these templates, like 30+, here's a little something for you:
Feather in Your Cap Award This person has done something very helpful for Uncyclopedia, and thus is deserving of a Feather in their Cap. Respect this person. |
If you got 30+ templates, take a Feather. (If you didn't, and take one anyway, best hope that I never, never find out or my flaming spiked banstick made out of ninjas will come out. I'm too lazy to figure out who did all the work, but I'm not too lazy to check if you claim you did.)
This sort of fine, community based work is what I like to see coming off a week's vacation. Kudos to all template squashers, not just the 30+ ones. 01/17 02:27
- You just made everyone KUNs & DUNs. Way to go.
- Not everyone. I started it, and I only did 22 of them. --Crazyswordsman...With SAVINGS!!!! (T/C) 16:33, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

- I understand that. Thus the 30+ template rule. By my count, only 4-5 people max could claim such an honor. I hate spammed templates that much, and I figured there'd be a bunch of 20 something people to cut that number down to 0-2. :) 01/19 23:47
If I might hack a hairball, I came up with the basic lists of what I considered inappropriate templates. I don't think much was done to check articles that I did not put on the list of articles to be cut. Someone who's got youth and vigor might surf through the articles which remain on the Used Here lists and double-check for stuff I misjudged or just plain missed.----OEJ 01:50, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Permission to use template at WikiWrit
I think the Jesus Approved template is better used at WikiWrit, the online Wiki Bible project. I want to use the Sarcasm template, the Q template, and the Box template as well. The only way I know how to create a template is to copy one, paste it into an edit box and then modify it and save. I already did copy them and modify them, but if there is objections I'll ask the administrator over there to delete them. I wrote the sarcasm template by the way. Are they based on standard template designs or did someone custom write the designs for Uncyclopedia? --Lt. Sir Orion Blastar (talk) 16:13, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Concerning Grue Templates
Should we do the same thing with Template:Grue? It seems to be abused in much the same way as the Jesus-, Black Jesus-, and Satan-Approved templates were, albeit to a lesser extent. -- 02:07, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- Absolutely. But keep it in certain articles (such as food and eating, creature, and Zork related ones, mainly). But Grue templates don't belong in articles about celebrities and letters and science (unless it's nature and there is a connection). I'll have a look tomorrow. --Crazyswordsman...With SAVINGS!!!!
