Tony Ahn

Tony Ahn is a K-pop star, known for being in the boy band H.O.T. and the dance group jtL.

Career[edit]

Tony Ahn in his "bad boy" phase: he doesn't care what anyone thinks, to the extent that his music managers let him.

In 1996 Ahn decided to become a K-pop singer, taking dance lessons. He never got any singing lessons though, since competent vocals are not required in K-pop.

H.O.T[edit]

He formed the five-man boy band H.O.T (acronym for High-five of Teenagers). H.O.T are considered the first idol group, meaning totally manufactured. The debut album We Hate All Kinds of Violence performed decently, selling over a million copies. H.O.T's follow-up album Wolf and Sheep did equally well, but, like Evanescence, H.O.T never topped their original success. Their third album was controversial in that it was accused of plagairism.

Like N*SYNC, the group was fated to dissolve in the early 2000s, whereupon fans actually protested and threw rocks outside of the record label's building to try to get them back. Unlike N*SYNC, the group had a reunion tour in 2018-2019 where High-five of Teenagers was, rather oddly, in their forties.

Philippines[edit]

After a successful career as a K-pop singer, Ahn had plastic surgery to change his apparent race after moving to Manila, as white people are revered in Filipino society. He opened the first reputation management consultancy in the Philippines, as Filipinos generally have poor reputations, but eventually moved into digital public relations, and now charges exorbitant rates to help corporations undergoing crises escape responsibility for the terrible things they've done. In 2013, Ahn again landed in controversy when The Daily Dot reported that Ahn's agency sold Wikipedia articles to clients and placed clients' articles on the Wikipedia main page. In the discussion of these practices, Wikipedia cofounder Jimbo Wales called Ahn's actions a "disgrace to Wikipedia", which resulted in Ahn's agency receiving additional exposure, causing it to pick up a bunch of new clients that don't care what Jimmy Wales thinks.

Several months later, the press reported that Ahn's social media services included brokering celebrity social media posts endorsing his clients' products.

Volunteer work[edit]

Ahn has consulted pro bono for the Armed Forces of the Philippines mostly because having army buddies lessens the likelihood that he'll get beat up. He was involved in disaster relief efforts after several typhoons (but only the parts of the disaster that he caused).
