Forum:Tournament Plan: Uncyc Summer Extravaganza!
Annual Uncyclopedia Summer Extravaganza!
Co-hosted by Joe the Burninator and High General Aimsplode.
Competition starts on August 1, 12am ET (or 7.00 UTC), and finishes on August 16, 12pm ET (19.00UTC). Bad luck if you live on the other side of the world, especially us Aussies.
This tournament is a summer themed tournament: think cars, alcohol or vacation, girls, beaches, sunburns, parties etc... it can be any topic of any genre- or simply, you can write about anything you wish to write about, or more simply, write whatever your team wants to write, as long as it has something to do with summer (be creative even with how you write the article...creative is good). It can also be an UnNews report, or an UnPoetia article, or it can even be an UnReviews about a summer blockbuster (e.g. Jaws). Write about anything your team wishes to write, but make sure it is summer related.
Contestants participate in a Sudden Death tournament. There are six teams, with four contestants in each team and two rounds. The contest will be on for two weeks with a couple days in between rounds for judging. Teams must write TWO articles in each round. Failure to do so may result in a forfeited match depending on what mood the organizers are in.
The rounds are:
- Round 1: (Week 1) All teams write 2 articles, top three voted teams go onto the final round. (Aug 1-7)
- Juding of round one Aug 7-until the judges get around to it
- Round 2: Beings on Wednesday 17 at 00.01 UTC (02.01 UK, 03.01 Western Europe) (8pm Tuesday 16 ET new york, toronto) and lasts exactly 7 days.
- Judging: Begins Wednesday 24 at 00.01 UTC (02.01 UK, 03.01 Western Europe) (8pm Tuesday 23 Agusut ET new york, toronto) and lasts exactly 7 days.
- Awards Ceremony on August 27 (Ucapan pada tgl. Agustus 27/Los putos de mierda que ganan pueden mirar mientras que jugamos con sus putas madres)
There are three judges, and judging is score-based, with 42.83 being the highest possible score and 2.45 being the lowest possible score. The score given is at the absolute discretion and hormonal state of the judges, as well as the MC's mood, who can manipulate the score.
Score will be the combined results of each judges scores for both articles (i.e. the sum of all six results). You cannot score zero, otherwise the computer divides by zero and ends the world!
The two/three teams with the highest score go on to the final round.
Teams can discuss possible article topics but not strategy nor content.
Competition starts on August 1. Sign-ups start now! IT HAS CLOSED LAH! 05:22, August 1, 2011 (UTC)
OFFICIAL JUDGING RULES
Because there is some confusion in all of this, here are the official judging rules:
- Each team gets two scores, for each of that team's articles.
- The maximum score a single article can get is 128.49 (42.83 x 3), which is all 3 judges giving a 42.83. The maximum score for the entire team (128.49 + 128.49=) is 256.98. The lowest possible score a single judge can assign to an article is 2.45, and for the whole team is (7.35 + 7.35=) 14.7, which means all judges give a 2.45 on both articles.
I am adding a score line for each of the team's two articles underneath their team, so we can add final scores there, once judging is done. DO NOT REMOVE THE SCORE LINES.
16:53, July 20, 2011 (UTC)NOTICE
Some people have been asking me if the articles for the USE would be held captive in userspace, or in mainspace. Keep them in mainspace until they are completely finished, then redirect them to one of your team member's userpages, you decide who's.

- I may not be on as much during August, but I should be able to contribute enough time.
Don't have a preference for a partner, yellow is just my favorite color. "Resistance is Futile"
- I'm thinking of doing a lyrics parody of Don Henley's "The Boys of Summer" with lots of eighties imagery (think Miami Vice, Ferraris, big hair, ridiculous neon colors (it seems the HTML gods have conveniently given us the colors of blue and purple), etc.). If not a lyrics parody, then just something with a "Summer in the Eighties" motif. I don't think I can pull it off without help, so any takers? We can change the team name, if you like.

TEAM NFC [Eliminated, no articles-WTF]

This tournament
Has already been going on far too long. I'm setting a deadline: August 25th. If it's not finished by then, everyone wins. Or at least who's left. --
12:19, August 16, 2011 (UTC)- Um, sorry TKF, Joe and I decide the time limit & dates for this contest, not you...lol....
- That was true back when this was supposed to be a contest, not a marathon. As it stands, this is looking to hold back the start dates of the PLS (which by all rights should have started by now) and The Article Whisperer. So I am saying as an administrator and writer for this site: this competition will end soon. By the 25th, specifically. -- 22:11, August 16, 2011 (UTC)

Even better
Round 2 begins Wednesday at 00.01 UTC (01.01 uk, 02.01 west europe) (8pm tuesday ET [new york, toronto]). Seven days to make two articles. The three teams not kicked out (with scores) go on. --ShabiDOO 19:25, August 16, 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for making that up, Shabi. Now, I officially officialize that statement to officially be the official rules for this contest. Thank you.
- And I'm making it even more expedient and official by declaring that, instead of a whole 7 days, they only have three days to write the articles, to add some actual suspense and incentive to this contest, and also to hopefully get the damn thing done before September. Also I'm leaving for a week without a computer soon so whoever wants to take my judging spot, it's open now. --
- No no no, ignore what TKF is saying here. The whole tournament has already been concieved by variouse writers, the 7 day rule applies. The tournament will be done by the end of August anyways. You cant expect three teams to finish articles in 3 days, when half the teams didint even do 2 in 7 days. Besides, aimsplode officialy agreed with what I said, and hes the organiser TKF is a judge. --ShabiDOO 23:22, August 16, 2011 (UTC)
- Actually, I'm not a judge because just above there I quit. And, no offense to the organizers, but to be called an "organizer" usually implies that there's some sort of organization going on, whereas this entire competition is plodding along indifferently, without deadlines until someone who isn't Aimsplode or JoeNumbers suggests them, and seemingly improvised in every respect. If we give a week to write and a week to judge the next round, we'll finish on exactly the 31st the earliest. This assumes that all the judges judge on time and, god forbid, there isn't a third round. -- 23:43, August 16, 2011 (UTC)
- Also, there's zero reason why people need seven days to write two articles. It's been proven time and again in the past that prizewinning articles can spring up in no less than half an hour, and collaborations can be put together within a day. Three days is perfectly reasonable and actually motivates contestants to get off their asses. --
- 3 days? I normally write my articles over the span of weeks or months! I don't want to sound negative but if all contests change rule in the twink of an eye while we're right in the middle of it, I'll never participate again. The original ruling said 7 days. Mattsnow 00:24, August 17, 2011 (UTC)
- I think Im going to pull out. No I will. Until its completely clear that this is a 7 day round. --ShabiDOO 00:47, August 17, 2011 (UTC)
- Wait, since TFK pulled out, he has nothign to do with the tournament anymore, so, 7 day format sticks. So...7 days it is. OLAY! Just have to find a new judge. Aimsplode, look for a new judge please...I guess you have 7 days which shouldnt be too difficult. --ShabiDOO 00:51, August 17, 2011 (UTC)
- Shabidoo, while we can't make you cooperate (well, we could ban you, but that could be a mite counter-productive), please try to see if from our point of view - this contest has already gone on for weeks at the expense of other contests which had been scheduled for around this time before this one was even considered. While new contests are welcome, some of use have been waiting for the others already, and allowing this one to continue at the same slow rate it's been going at the expense of these others really doesn't help anyone. That said, articles don't take that long to write if folks just focus, and with groups of four, they indeed should go even faster if said groups actually do them. So please, three days for this phase. Finish by the 25th. We need to move on.

- Lyrithya, this text is really unfair as wel. Someone here is cutting the tournament by 4 days, when, infact he is one of the judges that took over a week to get his scores in delaying the well planned tournament in the first place amonst another organiser who was banned while he could have been organising it. In lieu of this, it is very doubtful we will have anything more than a single stub in two days. Therefore, I have two possible solutions here: a) Actually calculate my team's score for the first round and call whoever has the most points the winner... or b) Continue this in a private tournament on somebody's talkpage, then just update this forum page with the final information when it is completed. That is the only way feasible way I can see to extend this. Although I can't speak for my only teammate, personally, I think we should just be done with it. -- 23:30 August 17, 2011 (UTC)

Everyone participating in this competition including the organisers wants it to be 7 days long (this round).
