Tank Girl
Tank Girl is a British comic created as an excuse to draw a hot girl with heavy artillery doing drugs and fucking everyone by Jamie Hewlett and Alan Martin (writer). Originally drawn by Jamie Hewlett, the strip is currently drawn by Rufus Dayglo, Ashley Wood, and Mike McMahon.
The character Tank Girl drives a tank (big fucking surprise), which is also her home. She undertakes a series of missions for a nebulous organization before making a serious mistake and being declared an outlaw for her sexual inclinations and her substance abuse. Beer, sex, violence and heavy artillery, did you want a blow job with that? The comic centres on her misadventures with her boyfriend, Booga, a mutant kangaroo. The comic's style was heavily influenced by punk visual art (oi, oi), and strips were frequently deeply disorganized, anarchic, absurdist, and psychedelic. The strip features various elements with origins in surrealist techniques, fanzines, collage, cut-up technique, stream of consciousness, and metafiction, with very little regard or interest for conventional plot or committed narrative.
The strip was initially set in a stylized post-apocalyptic Australia although it drew heavily from contemporary British pop culture.
Origins[edit]
Originally published in Deadline Magazine Based on the real life hallucinations of Rebecca Buck and Jamie Hewlett, the Tank Girl story first came to life when Jamie was kidnapped by Rebecca. After two weeks Jamie's long time friend and lover, Alan Martin, found his friend abandon in the Australian outback locked in the basement of a small shack. Jamie was rushed to Canberra Hospital and was treated for a crushed pelvis and level 12 dehydration.
Jamie returned to the shack shortly after leaving the hospital, when asked why he explained that it was the best weekend ever. For the rest of Jamie's life he search for Rebecca across the outback, the only record of his journeys is the Tank Girl comics. The comics were often shipped to Alan Martin from locations unknown, and often stained with tears.
It is not known if Jamie ever found Tank Girl, some say he went mad based on the rantings in the published comics. More likely as an avid drug user, Jamie retired to some hole somewhere, dropped acid and giggled as he sent his insane rantings to his publisher.
Movie[edit]
Budget $25,000,000 (estimated shooting cost) and over $500 in beer/weed expenses
Gross revenue $4,064,495 (box office) plus a pack of Cigarettes to put it on Netflix
Tank Girl was not as widely distributed as originally planed. Upon the Movie's release, large scale protests were organized by upset parents. The protests were however, over shadowed by The 1987 incident. Thusly much quality PR was lost. The movie was attacked for its Bad plot and on air killing of several actors. It remains with a cult following.
The movie had some cool shit, like:
- A sick device that like, pulled all the water out of someone's body and clean it and like, give it to the person that shoved it in them, cause like water in the wasteland is like, valuable, cause that's what it will be like at the end of the world you know.
- HOLY SHIZIT TANK GRRL IS SOOO FUCKING HOT LOL
- HOLY SHIT TANK GIRL JUST FUCKING OFFERED THAT GUY A BLOW JOB THEN KILLED HIM
- Tanks are cool
- Robotic arms are also cool
- Lesbians
- People with out clothes
- Jet Girl is all mousy and cute awwww
- Huh, Tank Girl is like cool and doesn't afraid of anything.
Bottom line being, If you go in to Tank Girl looking for nothing, you get it all.
Legendary Battle: Tank Man versus Tank Girl[edit]
Tank Man's nemesis, Tank Girl, met him in the air above China on December 24, 1999. Their battle was so fierce that people all the way to Sibiria thought the world was ending and Santa Claus was sending up fireworks at the same time.
Although Tank Man apparently killed her in their battle - his greatest feat in recorded history - her body was never found and her last words were "I'm going to kill you all if I have to break the Universe to do it!" We live in uncertain times.
