- Keep, naturally, but I'll admit I might prefer it to be more paranoid. The neighbors are characters in this one, rather than scary, invisible entities, and that may be why it reads like slandanity (libelanity?). It might be better if it held more to the theme of how you can live in a neighborhood for years and years and never really know anything about your neighbors, but then again, it might lose something that way, too. Interesting problem. --Some user 14:28, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure. Sorry to appear ambiguous, but this needs something done to it, although I'm currently at a loss as to exactly what. Certainly in its current form it's far too 'chatty' to be encyclopedic, and I agree with Flam that it's esoteric and weird; however, it's not beyond redemption in my opinion. -- Sir Codeine K·H·P·B·M·N·C·U·Bu. · (Harangue) 14:46, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
- 0_o... for once, I'm speechless. I'm with Codeine on this one; it's funny (I know people like this, and it's spot on,) but not "there" yet. - It's on my to-do list, and I've done a little work on it already (such as the "Oscar by the Sea" image), but I'll admit, the threat of the whole batch of these things being deleted all at once has reduced my enthusiasm somewhat. Btw, Flammable, I notice you haven't (yet) posted any votes on the ones listed below...? c • > • cunwapquc? 14:34, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
- Don't delete, but will anyone really understand how to make Wilde quotes? --TimeStopper 22:01, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
- If you're referring to the fact that a large portion of the Wilde quotes on this site involve some reference to buggery, and have about as much wit and humor value as what's currently in Making up Star Trek quotes, then the situation looks rather grave, I fear.
- Anyway, can we remove this VFD entry? I'd assume Nerd wasn't being entirely serious in putting it here, and lately I've taken a dislike to dilatory VF-whatever entries in general. Call me a killjoy, but I'm tired of seeing 'em. (And Nerd, just be glad I didn't list HowTo:Refer to Yourself in the Third Person here... easily the worst of them all!) --Some user 22:16, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
- Delete: No, let's not just remove it from VFD, I'd actually like to address this matter. This page contains, so far as I can tell, roughly zero actual content. There isn't anything that actually addresses the matter of making up Oscar Wilde quotes; all it is is a long list of fake quotes. The good quotes should be added to Wilde and the page itself should be deleted. --Sir gwax (talk) 16:27, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
- Well, okay... I guess I see three problems. I agree that whatever decent content there may once have been has been diluted now to the point of absurdity, but who decides which quotes to keep? That's certainly not a job I want (though I was resigned to trying it eventually anyway, and at least getting rid of some of the blatantly terrible ones). The second problem is the same one I think we're seeing with some of the other quotes pages listed here now: Too many established users have added quotes to this page, and whether they're good or bad, those same users will probably vote to keep it for that reason. The third problem is that this is probably the single most-cited and most-linked-to Uncyclopedia article on outside websites, at a time when you can't get a Google hit on Uncyclopedia to save your life... So while I'm completely sympathetic to what you're saying, I just think putting this page up for VFD is a futile gesture that could easily backfire. I think it's very likely to survive a vote here, and that will only make it more difficult to even clean up, much less delete entirely, later on. I'm still willing to try to clean it up, but let's face it, I've already done nine of these things, and nobody has even said "thank you." And in this case, one "super-revert" could undo literally days of work! It seems pretty clear to me now that taking on this project was a fairly serious miscalculation on my part, and if I'd known then what I know now, I absolutely wouldn't have bothered. --Some user 17:09, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
- I'd go the route of writing an actual article about how to make up Oscar Wilde quotes and use as few examples as possible, then include a linke to Wilde, where people can see more examples. That way the page will have genuine content instead of being a giant pile of crap. Go ahead, delete tons of stuff and if anyone gives you a hard time, let me know and I'll use my admin clout to yell at them. --Sir gwax (talk) 20:08, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

- Comment III - When I first put this up for VFD, there were three fewer slavery-related quotes than there are now; those were added by Prettiestpretty, and they are an improvement. But all of them could be (and for the most part, have been) rolled into Thomas Jefferson without upsetting the tone of that article, unlike the Matrix or Sun-Tzu quotes which probably would upset the tone of those respective articles, at least as they stand now. My point is that this article is mostly superfluous. <soapbox>Maybe there is more that can be done with Jefferson and I'm just unable to come up with it, but if we want highly participatory quotes pages, we should set them up for people like (I dunno) Bill Gates, Dick Cheney, Sherlock Holmes, Confucius, and Satan, maybe. Jefferson just isn't enough of a target, and in my opinion that's why nobody added a single quote to the page for four months prior to it showing up here. If we keep it, will it be another four months?</soapbox> --Some user 19:23, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
