Forum:The sidebar
It has too much stuff. Mainly the interaction thing - it's twice as big as Wikipedia's, and a lot of it is pretty redundant. And the projects thing is bloody giant if you don't have javascript...
Anyway, I guess I'm asking...
- Do you people use all of that?
- Which ones do folks use?
- Would there be a better way to group some of these?
- Should we perhaps start using the Community Portal at some point?
- What, even, is the Community Portal?
- In fact, what are most of those, and how should a new user or reader or random passerby even know what they're for? I mean, I don't even know.

I use the sidebar all the time. You can get rid of the projets, and the toolbox, but let everything else stay. Seriously, i use it every time i come on, it's good. Fuck the community portal, and the ones i use are the following: Village Dump, Chatroom, VFH, VFP, Upcoming events, and Things to do. Although I dontr use the projects tab that much, at least keep HowTo therr, everyone loves that.
01:39, September 18, 2011 (UTC)- I agree its gotten pretty big over the years. When I last edited the sidebar, I tried to compensate by adding the most vital links under "Navigation" and "Interaction" (mirroring Wikipedia) and the "classic" sidebar under "Community". Though I don't use the sidebar as much as I used to, I did rely heavily Things to do during my early years here. I think it'd be helpful for a lot of newer users (especially those who might not be comfortable using Special:SpecialPages or Category:Uncyclopedia maintenance). Personally, I think the best way to reorganize the sidebar is to use Wikipedia's version. Anything leftover could be sorted into a third section or maybe incorporated into something like Wikipedia's recent changes header? MadMax 03:01, September 18, 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, why not. Just need to not completely overdo it like they did... *shifty eyes*

- The community portal should be revamped. It would be a great chance to make a page with a comprehensive list of the links that any uncuyclopedia would need and give new users a good idea of the various spaces on uncyclopedia. Im willing to take part in a revamps--ShabiDOO 18:45, September 18, 2011 (UTC)

- Hmm, what exactly does that template do, MadMax? 09:18, 20 September 2011
- It's a version of Wikipedia's recent changes template to replace the current one. In theory, it could be used for links removed from the sidebar. MadMax 09:27, September 20, 2011 (UTC)

Projects
- Against. It's collapsed by default and therefore I never use it. --User:Jack Phoenix/sig 18:33, September 20, 2011 (UTC)
- Comment. The idea behind this was to try to promote the various projects here. If this isn't working, then perhaps we need a better idea (not that a better idea wouldn't necessarily be nice anyway), and if the projects themselves aren't worth promoting, well... you know.

Basically, that thing Simsilikesims was saying, but more... specific?
- Honestly, against - I'd still contend that the things need as much visibility as possible, at least the main ones. Perhaps taking it down to four or five main ones and then having an All Projects page to link to for a complete overview and for the other ones would work better?

Toolbox
You better start believing in troll threads, because you're in one. I'm just saying that you're not gonna remove the toolbox without a lot of epic JS hackery, and that'd still be pointless. --User:Jack Phoenix/sig 18:33, September 20, 2011 (UTC)
- We can dream, can't we?
- Actually, it's pretty simple, and css would do it too, but I agree on the bit about it being pretty pointless. Seriously, guys, this is part of the software, not stuff we've added for various reasons over the years, and thus not what this forum was even remotely about, so kindly buzz off. If you want to go adding/removing stuff from the toolbox, please start a new forum and provide some actual convincing arguments.

- Nom and For. Our default sidebar should be as close to Wikipedia's as possible, and then users can add to their sidebar's using javascript. I have links to VFD, QVFD, BP, and UN:M in my sidebar that I find very useful. -- Brigadier General Sir Zombiebaron 03:35, September 21, 2011 (UTC)
- Against. I don't have a problem with looking like Wikipedia, but I do have an issue with this fervent we-need-to-have-everything-exactly-like-Wikipedia-has-it-ism. So, being as similar as is desirable, but not to the point where it needlessly messes up the site? Yes. Being as similar as possible? Hell no. 11:13, 21 September 2011
- I'd say so, at least to a point - Wikipedia is just an encyclopaedia, but Uncyclopedia is like trying to parody bloody every wikimedia project mashed together along with a bunch of other unaffiliated wikis also thrown in. So... yeah. Eh. How do you even organise that?

- A definite "For!" Why? Because folks don't do quite enough pointless things around here.
