Weezer gets weird at Trump's inauguration |
22 January 2025
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Rivers Cuomo, frontman of American alt-rock band Weezer, has been accused of ruining President Donald Trump's inauguration after performing their cover of Toto's "Africa".
"Who does this guy think he is?" asked Elon Musk, owner of X (formerly Twitter) and Tesla. "At least he isn't a Nazi, right?"
When the 90s band first entered the stage, they were greeted by applause by the crowd, who were no doubt expecting the band to play hits like "Beverly Hills" and "Say It Ain't So". Instead, they were given a sales pitch on Cuomo's Weezify app, a sneak peak at Brian Bell's acting reel, a twenty-minute musical interlude that was scrapped on 2022's SZNZ, before being treated to the meat pork and beans, which was their critically acclaimed "Africa" cover. However, upon completion, the crowd was beyond confused behind the whole set, and happy that they could finally move onto Musk's speech.
"Impressive. Most impressive," President Trump stated when asked about Weezer's performance. "I love Weezer, and Weezer love me. Only thing I would change would be the title. I would call it 'Gulf of Africa', you can never have too much golf."
Despite the President's opinion, many witnesses claimed otherwise, calling it "totally weird", and "started off weird, but got better when they finished", along with many asking "what does Africa have to do with America?"
Many also suspect that the mastermind of having the band perform was none other than Barron Trump, a meme-lord who was (allegedly) behind Trump's re-election, who hoped that having Weezer "get weird" would take eyes off of Elon after being caught in a cheating scandal in which he lied about many victory royales he had in Fortnite.
