HOLLYWOOD, California -- The upcoming NBC TV movie about the execution of Saddam Hussein, set to air during May Sweeps, has ceased production indefinitely after the actor playing the Iraqi dictator died while shooting the execution scene. The actor, Renee Zellweiger, was 40. The death has been ruled accidental. The movie had been in the works since the December 30, 2006 execution of Hussein, who was 69.

Director Oscar Wilde released this statement earlier today:

“The death of Renee Zellweiger is a huge loss to the entertainment industry. We knew the execution scene would be dangerous. We had about 12 stuntmen die doing this stunt until we got the right shot. Unfortunately, it looks like we will have to shelve the project for good. My condolences go out to Renee and his family.”

NBC has confirmed that they will shelve the movie in favor of The Uncyclopedia Movie, Wal-Mart:The Movie, and a made-for-TV sequel to the 1997 blockbuster Titanic.

Meanwhile, the Movie Trailer Announcer Guy is upset that he didn't get to record his voiceover for the TV advertisements. "In a world," he says, "where entertainment is needed... tragedy occurs. One man will fight for what's right. And what's wrong... will be totally forgotten. From the voice of every movie trailer in Hollywood... This Quote. Rated R."

In related news, the Movie Trailer Announcer Guy has denied claims that he is in a relationship with Mr. Movie Phone, stating, "In a world... where one is attracted to the same sex... Justice... must... be served. From the people who brought you Brokeback Mountain comes a tale of rumors, lies, and more lies... Don LaFontaine Is Not Gay. Rated PG-13."

Abe Vigoda was best known for his roles on television's Barney Miller and Fish, as well for his dramatic turns in The Godfather and Good Burger.
