Forum:The "Codeine's Mum" Proposal
I'd like to formally propose to Codeine's mum. No, wait, that wasn't what I wanted to do...
In this thread, Codeine wrote:
Personally, I favour the deletion of all vanity pages and schoolcruft except those which are about something undeniably notable; by which I mean stuff that even my mother would have heard of.
I'd like to formally propose (even though it looks like we all want that) that we adopt a similiar policy of "No, unless Codeine's Mum might have possibly heard of it." The reasons for such a policy have been hashed out on and off again on this site. My primary reasons that this is a good policy are that it:
A) Avoids potential legal trouble.
B) Avoids flamewars and revertwars which occasionally spill into the rest of the site.
C) Keeps stupid shit off our site.
D) Frees up VFD for more important articles.
E) Uncyclopedia is an Encyclopedia. If you want a fansite, there are tons of places to have one, not limited to Myspace, LiveJournal, Facebook, ED, GeoCities, etc.

If anyone should right it, it should be only Codeine & editted by Codeine. Protected page if you will. - AGAINST: Wow, I get to be the only person voting against this proposal. Anyway, my reasons are simple; sometimes people need to vent, I consider it a bit of a public service that we allow them to do so and I am strongly opposed to blanket deletion policies. Although the articles that tend to be created tend to be crap and we all know how much I hate crappy articles, I think we should still judge the articles on quality instead of just having a blanket deletion policy. --Sir gwax (talk) 16:05, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Discussion as to what Codeine's Mum might have heard of
- I'd guess with one or more college age children, most major colleges and universities. Probably not most high schools or primary/elementary schools or private boarding schools. Most major bands, not garage bands with a shitty-looking page on MySpace.
- Could we have Codeine's Mum replace or supplement Peer Review? Reviews like "I read your page and, in my opinion, it needs to contain more information about something of which I have heard." would be cool.--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 05:15, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

- I like to think Codeine's mom hung out with Andy Warhol at the Factory for a few years, dropped out of sight to concentrate on her career but then made a big comeback in the late 70s and early 80s, managing the early New York punk scene and discovering Basquiat. But that's just me.--Procopius 01:21, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

- It allows for an entire week of maniacal laughter before deletion, instead of merely 15 seconds. Or maybe it allows an article about Bumfuck college, filled with text like "my psychology professor Dr. james is a weeiner" to evolve into a decent article. - Take that anger out on Category:Vanity. We're like 2 votes away from it being official. 19:11, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
What about my mum?
She might be an even more effective limit. Not that she would have a funnier name (after all, "Dawg's Mum" or "Wolf's Mum" just doesn't have the same ring).
Really, what I'm trying to say is we should just have a middle-aged-mum clause on all Vanity. If the random admin's mom hasn't heard of some vanity article subject, we can huff it.
However, we also need some kind of exception clause for great works, like the WJU series. 23:44, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
- Not sure that WJU would run afoul of this policy. Lacking the ability to ask Codeine's mum, I checked google, (lots of hits) wikipedia, (it's got a page) at least some admins have heard of it, and it's funny. Now each individual listed on the pages isn't necessarily famous, but the organization as a whole doesn't count as vanity, in my opinion.
- And 95% of the reason I suggested "Codeine's Mum" was for the sheer silliness of it all. Sure, we could have a "Does your average 52 year old accountant know what this is" clause, but it's not nearly as
sexysilly as Codeine's Mum. - In addition, this sort of terminology highlights what I see as gray areas - things like GameFAQs, Kingdom of Loathing and ZFGC. No, Codeine's mom probably hasn't heard of them. (Unless she goes there to pwn n00bs) Yes, they show up on google. And maybe they have a wikipedia page. But do these cross the line for vanity?
- ...Heh, what am I worrying about...Delete them all. I almost tried to save something there. I need another drink... 00:10, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
- As Famine pointed out, I think it's implied in the "CM" clause; certainly what I meant in the original post was that for vanity/schoolcruft to be acceptable, it should be known to any of our mothers. My mum's just cooler than any of yours, is all[1] -- Sir Codeine K·H·P·B·M·N·C·U·Bu. · (Harangue) 00:16, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
- The crucial question is: Has Codeine's Mum heard of this thread? --Olipro Anchor KUN (Harass) 23:22, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
