Moderate Point-Moderate Counterpoint: What do we think of the stimulus package? |
4 March 2009
Here at UnNews, we are proud to give voice to every side of an important debate. Having heard all we care to from the ideologues, we turn to the moderates to give us their different points of view. We have asked two moderates for their views on President Obama's stimulus package - on the left, John James of the group Responsible Democrats of America, and on the right, James John from the group Diplomatic Republicans of America. Here are their frankly useless viewpoints:
Moderate Point[edit]
While the economy is in clear need of a fix, I certainly hope the cure isn't worse than the disease
by John James, RDA spokesperson
It is hard for us on the moderate left to hear ultra-liberals loudly proclaim that this frankly overblown recession will send us to the brink of total disaster and if we don't do something now, we will tumble into a deep dark depression from which we will never recover. This nightmare scenario seems too extreme.
The most important thing is that we face this thing head-on with a united front. Now is not the time for partisan bickering. Now is the time for action. I am proud of our new president for having the guts to do what he believes is right for our economy and for our children.
Ultimately, it comes down to a choice between being broke for an uncertain length of time, or being in debt for a clear very long time. I don't have the answer. I only hope the president knows what he is doing.
Moderate Counterpoint[edit]
While the economy is in clear need of a fix, it seems to me like the cure might be worse than the disease.
by James John, DRA spokesperson
It is hard for us on the moderate right to hear ultra-conservatives loudly proclaim that this frankly well-thought out stimulus package will send us to the brink of disaster and if we don't stop it, we will tumble into a deep dark debt from which we will never recover. This nightmare scenario seems too extreme.
The most important thing is that we face this thing head-on with a united front. Now is not the time for partisan bickering. Now is the time for action. But this new president has his work cut out for him if he is to convince me that his solution is the right one for our economy and for our children.
Ultimately, it comes down to a choice between waiting this thing out in uncertain hope that it will self-correct, or being in debt for a clear very long time. I don't have the answer. I only hope the president knows what he is doing.
