Forum:The Poo Lit Surprise, 4th Edition - Official Thread
Alright lads and lasses, a new PLS is nearly upon us. Oh joy of joys. Since the person running this one is lazy and grossly incompetent, I'm looking to you (yes, you) for help. For once there'll be an audience for your harebrained PLS schemes, and if they're good enough I might even use them without acknowledging your contribution. Wouldn't that be grand? Judge Signup
This is where all you power-hungry critics can get your rocks off. But remember, judges are not allowed to participate in the event in other categories, so as to prevent abusive situations. We're probably looking for 3 judges a category, for 4 or 5 categories, so please do sign-up, but only if you can deal with not writing for this competition. Ideally judges from last time wouldn't have to judge again, but we'll see how the sign-ups turnout. Final decisions are up to me and the cabal.

Atomic Disturbance. Like I was going to write anything anyway!
Sir Stupcarp. Formatting, satire, audios... I know good ones when I see 'em.
Jedravent. For the Best Article by a Noob. I won it last time, you know, so I'm qualified.
Tompkins Four more years! (or months, or whatever...)
Modusoperandi Best illustrated.
Rcmurphy But I've twice judged and twice entered already, so if you're mainly looking for new blood feel free to ignore me. If chosen, I promise a Euroipod in every pot would prefer not to judge Best Rewrite, but any other category is fine.
- All I'm looking for are competent judges, so...sorry rc. Maybe next time. Seriously though, I'd love for you to judge. Sir ENeGMA (talk) GUN WotM PLS 00:55, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Squiggle I haven't written - or done - anything at all in the last few months or so, and I'm not likely to get a burst of inspiration for the PLS. I'll judge anything, but preferably Best Article or Best Rewrite.

Electrified mocha chinchilla I was on vacation. Hope I'm not too late. Anyways, I'm up for WotM, have six featured articles, participated in the last Poo Lit, so. Yeah. I think I'm qualified. I'd like to judge either Best Rewrite or Best Article or something.
Cap'n Ben I'm in. I'm happy to judge anything, but I don't think I'd make great judge of images. Best article or best rewrite would suit me. --Cap'n Sir Ben GUN WotM VFH VFP 01:08, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
Hindleyite I'll find some time away from the Illogicopedia to do some judging, if you want me again. Just let me know when it starts and what I have to do and whatnot. I'll do whatever category you want but if I had a preference I'd say Best Illustrated.
Jack mort I'd be happy to judge some stuff. I'm in no way qualified but then who is?
Zombiebaron, alright, so because I love showcasig my horrible writing and such, I don't wanna acctaully judge any of the categories. Instead I wanna judge the judges. Please send my cheque in the mail. -- Brigadier General Sir Zombiebaron 21:11, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Categories
Let's talk categories. Last time we had 4, Best Article, Best Illustrated, Best Noob, and Best Rewrite, and together they split up $100 Wikia Dollars (Monopoly Money). I think this time 5 Categories would be better, at $20 a pop, that way we can get more writing for the same amount of cash. And if you're writing for cash, you're in the wrong place. This is the place to discuss which categories should be used. I think that Best Article, Best Rewrite, and Best Illustrated are must haves, and that Best Noob is probably good, but I would appreciate ideas for the 5th category. RC brought up a 'Theme Category' in the last forum post, and I thought this was a good idea, so feel free to submit themes or whatnot.
Discuss Categories here:
- I like the usual categories (best article, best rewrite, best article by a noob and best illustrated one) I'd add - best voice version of an article. ~ 14:49, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- Best article told in the first or second person. -- 17:26, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- Best article based on an actual historical event. —rc (t) 18:40, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- I prefer the idea of a themed article competition and like this one. -- 15Mickey20 (talk to Mickey) 22:44, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- Ooh! Another idea! Best article made in an alternate namespace (e.g. Unscripts, UnBooks etc) --

- Should we do best alternate namespace article period, or pick a particular namespace? Should this include UnNews as well? Sir ENeGMA (talk) GUN WotM PLS 19:36, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

- UnNews and HowTo already have plenty of featured articles, so I think if we do an alternate namespace category we shouldn't include those two so as to publicize our smaller namespaces. —rc (t) 20:25, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- If we did this, does that mean Best article would become "Best main namespace article?" -- 15Mickey20 (talk to Mickey) 22:44, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- Doesn't Best Article encompass all the other categories, though? -- 22:46, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

- Also, if we're being technical, HowTo and UnBooks aren't actually seperate namespaces - they're pretty much just naming conventions for articles that happen to fit the format. Having said that, I'm not particularly for or against the idea. --Whhhy?Whut?How? *Back from the dead* 23:07, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- I like the idea of some kind of themed article, or possibly article of a certain style. So we could perhaps have "Best encyclopedic" or "Best involved narrative", or as mentioned above, best historical. But rather than have people enter this category seperately it could be part of the best article category, but just eligible for this award if it doesn't get the big one. I'd also suggest that best illustrated should be done away with as I don't think it's a good idea to have people writing articles for the sole purpose of being able to include good images. Perhaps a simple "best image" would be better. --Kelpan 20:08, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
- "Best Encyclopedic Article", for articles that look like real encyclopedia entries, meaning they would be written in the third person and make minimal use of colloquial expressions (i.e. the joke doesn't depend on the use of swearing, etc). Or maybe "Best Political Article". --The Acceptable Cainad (Fnord) 23:34, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
- Oh yeah, that's what I meant. Encyclopedic. --Kelpan 11:12, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- Best UnBook? Best UnNews story? Etc. -- Hindleyite Converse 11:41, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
- Best Political Satire. While I know I'm a bit late with this, one of the things we are supposed to be doing here is writing "searingly sarcastic" articles. Most of our current political articles aren't all that searingly sarcastic. They're more "omg they sux0rs" articles. Let's have a Political Satire category - new article, rewrite, UnNews, UnBooks, etc. - any could make for some great reading. 06/24 16:24

This is for any other ideas you might have. Make another section header for them.
Eligible Judges
- I'd make some basic requirements for a judge - i.e., proved ability in the category they signed for. Possibly ask that lazy bastard who used to run the PLS before for some advice on that. ~ 14:51, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
