Sting, yesterday: "well, don't look at me! How was I supposed to know the man would erupt into a morasse of weepng pustules?"

JIGGERYBUGGERY, England -- A MAN DIED AFTER MEETING STING while out for a walk with his wife and dog, it has emerged. Accountant Richard Francis, 59, met the lead singer of the recently reformed band The Police on Sunday and started feeling ill 10 minutes later, his wife has said.

Jacqui Francis, also 59, said her husband had a severe allergy to aging rock stars, but had no medication with him as they walked in Builth Wells, Powys. She said that she and her husband, who have been married for 34 years, were out for a walk when they came across Sting, who was, "otter hunting".

Being a fan of The Police Mr Francis struck up a brief conversation with the star who by all accounts "was a smashing, down to earth chap" but within 10 minutes he fell ill with a severe allergic reaction.

Mrs Francis added, "After meeting Sting we walked about 300 yards and he said he needed to sit down - he was perspiring quite heavily."

"A farmer came by and he and a young man picked Richard up and they took him to hospital. Unfortunately the farmer turned out to be the lead singer of The Who Roger Daltry, so matters were compounded somewhat and his condition worsened."

Mrs Francis explained how her husband had had a similar attack 20 years ago when he bumped into Mick Jagger and John Lennon. Being a fan of The Rolling Stones Mr Francis struck up a brief conversation with the stars who by all accounts "were smashing, down to earth chaps" but within 10 minutes he fell ill with a severe allergic reaction. Fortunately, on that occasion he pulled through.

Unfortunately this time lady luck was not on Mr Francis's side. Once in hospital Mr Francis was attended to by Dr George Michael, also lead singer of 80s pop band Duran Duran. He died soon afterwards.
