It's Always Sunny in the Civic Republic of Philadelphia, often shortened to It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, is an American comedy series set in The Walking Dead universe, created by the two owners of the Wrexham Soccer Football Club. With its first season premiering in 2005, it is also one of the longest running live-action TV series in history, with a total of sixteen seasons as of 2024. Up until the series' sixth season, it was unofficially connected to The Walking Dead, with all references to the outside shenanigans kept to a minimum, as to not spoil the eventual 2010 zombie show featuring Rick Grimes. After Grimes' departure in season nine of the main series, he transferred to It's Always Sunny in the thirteenth season as a recurring guest star until the sixteenth when he got his own spin-off in the form of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.

Premise[edit]

Within the Civic Republic of Philadelphia, three friends — Dennis, Charlie and Ronald — run the best bar in the city, Patrick's Pub. Dennis' sister and father also work there, with the former only there as she refused to become a Consignee, and the latter, Frank Reynolds, who is forced to do community service after he crashed the C.R. stock exchange when he started to sell his home-made soft drink. The Gang, while serving the last of the real alcohol left on the planet, often get themselves into humorous situations — such as being cancelled for being 'Alivist' when Dennis tweeted that walkers shouldn't have rights, or when Charlie almost blew up the Pub when trying to make a molotov cocktail (which he thought was a type of fancy drink).

Cast and characters[edit]

The Gang[edit]

  • Charlie Day as Charlie: the Janitor for Patrick's Pub. Can lick a toilet clean in less than five seconds, and is surprisingly smarter than a walker.
  • Glenn Howerton as Dennis Reynolds: the self-proclaimed "leader" of the gang. Had his Range Rover impounded after he was caught trying to smuggle in alive walkers to sell on the Black Market.
  • Rob McElhenney as Ronald McDonald: the go-to-guy for a Big Mac — which is not a burger. Can karate chop a walker in half after drinking the secret elixir of Fight Milk.
  • Elizabeth Olsen as Deandra Reynolds: Dennis' sister and Frank's daughter. The bartender for the pub and some type of witch bird thing.
  • Danny DeVito as Frank Reynolds: the owner of Patrick's Pub and an unlimited ammo revolver. Shoots anything that moves and avoids paying tax at all costs.

CRM[edit]

  • Andrew Clutterbuck as Rick Grimes: a Sergeant Major within the CRM and former throat biting, badass, crying baby, Sheriff's Deputy. Is a frequent at Patrick's Pub where most mayhem is curved with his signature stink eye.
  • PollyPocket MacBook as Jadis Stokes: a shit haircut wearing Warrant Officer who tries to seduce Rick with every chance. Super powers include being able to call in a helicopter in the middle of nowhere, changing teams, and painting.
