You see a light in the phone booth. As much as you want to look there, you quickly convince yourself not to. You continue shopping.

A week later, you return to the store, in the same aisle, as you need ziti for your rigatoni surprise (the surprise it that there is no rigatoni in it). You see the light is still there. You are perplexed by it, but you try to restrain yourself. However, ultimately you succumb to the temptation to look. You go up to the phone booth and open it, and...

Locked. There is a keylock on the phone booth's door. How odd, you think, but you shake it off quickly. Despite the apparent lack of keys, you still manage to open it up with a bobby pin, which had gotten wedged between your teeth when a girl scout troop mauled you until you bought a box of Allabouts. Now, with the door unlocked, you again attempt to open a door and...

Nothing.

You see nothing. You turn around to leave the phone booth, but somehow, gravity is sucking you in. A horrible though goes across your head that you just opened the door to another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound, but made up entirely of black holes. Your body is already becoming more compressed than the air in a scuba tank. In your final moments before you become a nice economy-sized package, you wonder why you never payed any attention in that astophysics class you took in college.

*** You have been compressed. ***

But wait...

You feel a tremendous wrench – the hand of God coming down to wipe clean the temporal chalkboard. The world dissolves, and then quickly floods back into existence, restoring its state as it was before you made your move.

But somehow, things aren't set up exactly the same as last time....

Late Thursday night. You've had a hard day and the last thing you need is this: shopping. Luckily, the place is pretty empty and you're progressing rapidly.

On to the next aisle.

The aisle stretches to the north, and back to the south. The shelves on either side of you block your view of the rest of the supermarket, with only the brightly colored aisle markers visible.

You have stopped your trolley next to the pasta section, bright plastic bags full of pale skin-tone shapes.

There is a brunette woman a few meters ahead, filling her trolley with sauces.

A shiny metal phone booth sits in the center of the aisle.
