The PLS is open.
Go submit your articles, or check your talkpage to see if you were selected to be a judge.

Okay people. Let's make this simple and easy like last time. The next PLS is right around the corner (within the next menstrual cycle even). This is the OFFICIAL Village Dump thread for the 2008 PLS. Leave questions, comments, non sequiturs, and mindless chatter on this page or my talk page.

The first order of business is judge sign-up. If you'd like to be a judge, leave your signature, preferred category of judging (categories are the same as last year), and the name of your childhood hero and/or your pet's name below. On a related note, judges are allowed to participate in the competition this year, with the exception of the category in which they are judging.

For the lowdown and the entire rules (which are still eligible to change), see the soon to be main page of the PLS, here. Please overview this page before asking questions such as "When exactly does the PLS start?", "Are there any new categories?", "Are collaborations still allowed?", "Boxers or briefs?", etc. Those answers can be found on that page. --Hotadmin4u69 [TALK] 17:45, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Judge sign-up

Also my childhood hero was a Mexican I meet on the streets one day. --¿Qua? es mi página de discusión, es lo que mi contribuiría 20:38, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
  • I'm happy to help here...but what does judging entail exactly? I'd quite like to help out in either Best Noob Article or Best Alternate Namespace Article. As a judge do you simply make the choice, or do you have to write a speech (with tears) which explains your choice? - [18:42 3 June] Sir FSt. Don Pleb Yettie (talk) QotF BFF NotM RotM UNPotM UGotM CUN PEE SR UnProvise
  • I'm happy to judge whatever people would like me to. My childhood hero was myself. I also like to pet myself, but promise not to do so during the competition. MrN Icons-flag-gb.png HalIcon.png WhoreMrn.png Fork you! 19:06, Jun 3

  • Happy to do it and judge the same category as last time (best illustrated). I refuse to answer the other questions on the grounds that I was drunk at the time. --SirU.U.Esq. VFH | GUN | Natter | Uh oh | Pee 20:29, Jun 3
Actually UU, you were not drunk at the time, but obviously the hamster was. MrN Icons-flag-gb.png HalIcon.png WhoreMrn.png Fork you! 20:41, Jun 3
You must have been drunk at the time, if that looked like a hamster... --SirU.U.Esq. VFH | GUN | Natter | Uh oh | Pee 13:59, Jun 4
Fine then, I'll go with Best Alternate Namespace Article, if you're going to be like that! - [20:43 3 June] Sir FSt. Don Pleb Yettie (talk) QotF BFF NotM RotM UNPotM UGotM CUN PEE SR UnProvise
I think several judges are required for each category. MrN Icons-flag-gb.png HalIcon.png WhoreMrn.png Fork you! 20:46, Jun 3
I guess I will work with Qua on the best Mainspace article. Warm Regards, ▀ĴαVắśСąР▀ 14:15 December 22 2024
Actually the decision as to who will actually be judging what is made by a mysterious process known only to strange men whispering in dark corridors, passing mysterious packages between themselves... Probably wearing some kind of hooded garment of some description. And a hat. MrN Icons-flag-gb.png HalIcon.png WhoreMrn.png Fork you! 22:52, Jun 3

More serious; maybe we should have at least 1 very experienced person on each category (Thinker, Mhaille, Modus, Leddy, Cajek ect.) to keep things working well --Sir DJ ~ Irreverent OZ! Noobaward.jpg Wotm.jpg Unbooks mousepad.PNG GUN.png 14:01, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
  • I'm in! Heh heh heh! You younguns want experience? I've been here since there weren't nothin' but stubs a' clinjas as far as the eye could see! Why, back then, talking like you was a crazy old wild west prospector was considered funnier than a mule in an Alabama cotton gin and the only thing funnier were jokes about the alleged sexual proclivities of Michael Jackson who, I hear is kinda like one of those mistrals we usta have only in reverse, and what's more my childhood hero was some British cartoon made with cardboard cutouts, Cheapo the Crumb, or something... --Cap'n Sir Ben GUN WotM VFH VFP 14:47, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
  • You don't want experience; you want change! Change to the petty bureacracy slowing down Washington, change to healthcare, change to PLS judging! I'll take best main namespace article and judge the bejesus out of it. Also, British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith. I should really do a wrestling article someday. -- 15Mickey20 (talk to Mickey)  15:01, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Only vaguely alive. And I'm not sure about judging the noob category because I plan on entering that myself. —rc (t) 00:15, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

  • Which is faster: The speed of electricity through rubber or continental drift? --Pleb SYNDROME CUN medicate (butt poop!!!!) 21:06, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
    • Neither, because Alex DeLarge wore a bowler hat. ~ Tophatsig.png 10/06/2008 @ 00:33
    • Enough electricity will arc through rubber right quick like. Enough continent will drift at just about the same rate it always does. My vote, therefore, is for the speed of electricity through rubber. (I could, alternatively, launch into a great big quantum mechanical dissertation on why the speed of electricity through rubber is the same as the speed of electricity through everything else but I preferred the idea of arcing through rubber). --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 21:52, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
      • Yeah, but you would be wrong. The speed of electricity (i.e. current) for a fixed voltage is inversely proportional to resistance, which is different for different materials. So FUCK YOU. Also, cuntpigeons. -- yellow Ape (analyze) (Riot Porn) 21:02, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
      • A relatively accurate comment there, thanks Gwax. :) MrN Icons-flag-gb.png HalIcon.png WhoreMrn.png Fork you! 21:58, Jun 12
        • Really? How fast do you think electrons go Ape? Also, why insert your comment above mine? You messed up the times! Also, God Dammit... there must be some limit to how pointless a conversation gets before I'm forced to go eat my dinner. Dammit, there it goes. Dinner time. MrN Icons-flag-gb.png HalIcon.png WhoreMrn.png Fork you! 21:23, Jun 13
        • I'm glad that you caught the meaning of my comment MrN. For those of you that didn't, allow me to explain: The "speed of electricity" in rubber would be a measure of the (presumably average) velocity of electrons within the rubber, which is a very different thing from the conductivity, which is a measure of the ease with which electrons (in bulk) can travel across a material. Although the bulk flow of electrons across rubber is very slow--primarily on account of the fact that covalent single bonds keep electrons locked in one place--that does not mean that the electrons aren't going really fast. As a quick analogy, consider a car on a racetrack and a car on an autobahn: even though both cars might be going 150mph, the car on the racetrack isn't ever going to get anywhere because it's stuck. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 20:48, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
          • But "electricity" refers to the bulk effect. If it had been the "speed of electrons" in rubber then you would be correct, but it isn't, so you're not. So there. -- yellow Ape (analyze) (Riot Porn) 19:40, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
            • I hate to resort to our, often fallacious, sister-site but if we're going to resort to pedantry, I might as well. Although electricity is generally used in discussing the propagation of electric fields through a material, the speed of electricity refers to the movement of electrons, not the movement of the electric fields. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 17:44, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
              • I hate to carry on this really nerdy and pedantic debate any further, but according to your link: "The Speed of electricity refers to the relatively slow movement of free electrons through a conductor in the presence of an electric field." The key words here are "relatively slow" and "free electrons." Your link proves me right. -- yellow Ape (analyze) (Riot Porn) 19:15, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
                • Since we're discussing the speed of electricity in rubber, we must be asking about the small number of electrons which happen to have enough energy to become free. Unlike in a traditional conductor or semi-conductor, the number of free electrons will be almost infinitesimally small but it will be the non-zero kind of really small. These electrons will certainly be "relatively slow" in comparison to the electric field's speed of c but certainly quite quick relative to continental drift. --Sir gwax (talk) Signuke.gif 01:02, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Fact-filled nerd discussions of science? This sequitur isn't very non at all. -- §. | WotM | PLS | T | C | A 22:04, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Ok, looks like this is getting bumped back a bit or more...(FU EMC!) how do you all feel about picking some judges and calling it to start the 16th or so? - P.M., WotM, & GUN, Sir Led Balloon Baloon.gif(Tick Tock) (Contribs) 05:11, Jul 14

But does this mean my new thing won't be eligible? Oh well. I got a lot more ideas I can work on. --MegaPleb Dexter111344 Complain here 05:24, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Well, at least 2 people have already entered, so instead of starting the thing late, how about just extending the deadline by a day or two, picking the judges post haste, and getting the template up on the front page pronto? --UU - natter UU Manhole.gif 11:33, Jul 14
As you can't enter a category if you are judging it, we probably need to decide the judges before we start... MrN Icons-flag-gb.png HalIcon.png WhoreMrn.png Fork you! 11:55, Jul 14
Or just make sure the judges we pick haven't already entered the category we're picking for them - it's only Sycamore and Kingkitty who've entered so far, after all. --UU - natter UU Manhole.gif 12:02, Jul 14

I'm afraid the delay means that I'll have to pass on being a judge because I'll be busy in the next few weeks. —rc (t) 15:53, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Ok, here's what has to happen. Someone has to move emc's page to PLS, we need to look through the judges and talk to them on their talkpages about this, a few set dates have to be posted here and changed on the thing, and if someone links me a template here, I'll put it on the main page. I think it's in emc's userspace somewhere. Also, someone should talk to sannse about the prizes. I'll take care of nothing. It's all up to you! - P.M., WotM, & GUN, Sir Led Balloon Baloon.gif(Tick Tock) (Contribs) 16:23, Jul 14
Oh, and keep in mind that pages entered shouldn't have been started before today, it's kinda the rules..... - P.M., WotM, & GUN, Sir Led Balloon Baloon.gif(Tick Tock) (Contribs) 16:25, Jul 14
He means the 13th. Either way, Kingkitty's article and one of Sycamore's are technically disqualified. /me goes back to writing random crap, VFDing, and reverting (cause I have actual rollback bitches!!!) --MegaPleb Dexter111344 Complain here 16:30, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
