Bush to be stripped of Heisman trophy |
8 September 2010
DALLAS, Texas -- Yahoo! Sports reported Tuesday that George W. Bush is to be stripped of the 2005 Heisman Trophy by the end of the month.
The former U.S. President would be the first person stripped of the trophy in its 75-year history. The report said the award would remain vacant for 2005.
The website cited two sources close to the Heisman Trophy Trust, who said the Trust has concluded that there were serious irregularities during the year of the award. Executive Director Robert Whalen told the Associated Press, "There never were any Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq. Everyone agreed about that. Even Hillary Clinton did--or would have, if Bush hadn't added those seventeen words to that speech."
Withdrawal of the award would be the most recent in a long list of mishaps to befall the hapless former President, including not being invited to the convention that nominated his successor, and having his name never mentioned, except by Democrats when they claim it's his fault that unemployment hit double digits despite their huge "stimulus" program.
Mr. Bush did get one sop recently, as President Obama referred to him as a "patriot" on national television--but only in passing, as a segue to refer to himself as a patriot. It must be an affront that Mr. Obama has the Nobel Peace Prize and Mr. Bush will not even retain the Heisman Trophy.
At Mr. Bush's home at the Motel 6 here, a spokesman had no comment on the possible withdrawal of the Trophy. Because he is the pet mule.
