John Terry out for up to 12 months with twisted sock |
22 May 2008
Moscow, Russia: Chelsea boss Avram Grant has been forced to drop injury-prone skipper John Terry from next seasons campaign after he missed a crucial penalty in the Champions League final loss last night. The excuse given by the Israeli is that Terry accidentally twisted his sock when he slipped, crucially missing a decisive penalty that would have crowned Chelsea as European champions. It is believed that the Chelsea captain won’t be able to feature for the London club next season as Grant does not want him to aggravate such a serious, career-threatening injury.
The Chelsea club doctor told our UnNews reporter that “John is absolutely gutted just now. He won’t stop crying, obviously because a twisted sock is obviously rather painful as you can imagine.”
Terry endured seven bad injuries during 2007. Last February he injured an ankle, recovered astonishingly quickly but was then knocked unconscious in the Carling Cup final. He broke a toe in pre-season but continued with painkilling jabs. Terry then damaged his knee, smashed a cheekbone, and aggravated a knee problem that required surgery. However, this latest blow could stall the Englishman’s career for up to 12 months, although X-Ray results will reveal the full extend of the damage by the end of next week.
Chelsea's captain is a determined character, eager to help out an injury-ravaged team, but to recover in time for the 2009/10 season, he must avoid placing too much pressure on the sock. Rest is the only cure and the start of his rehabilitation will be decided when Chelsea's medical staff are satisfied that the fabics are strong enough.
Both Terry and the Chelsea backroom staff have been quick to point the finger at Manchester United starlet Nani, who they claim spat on the pitch to make Terry slip at the crucial moment and that a replay is the only option as Chelsea have already been robbed of three trophies this season. The claims are currently being investigated by UEFA.
