Forum:Speaking of skins, though
Is there any reason we haven't gone over to Wikipedia's new skin? Because, really, it seems like we should. We want to be a parody of Wikipedia, not an outdated parody of Wikipedia. I know we talked about this a few months ago, but... no one seemed to express any strong opinions, and nothing got either done or decided.

- Why do you think I waited until the day I got deopped to bring this up?
- We'd have to get Wikia to enable/install it as an option, first. Or we could do what Inciclopedia did, just turn a monobook into it... it'd look more like Wikipedia while not having all the annoying quirks, nor some of the more useful bits, for that matter. I did steal their code and started fixing a bit, but even that would need work.

Ask Wikia (Politely) to Install the Skin
What this means: Users will have the option of using the new skin, allowing administrators and other supposedly competent people to begin working out the inevitable CSS bugs that will litter the skin.
What this does not mean: We are not voting to make the skin default, just asking Wikia to install the skin as an option. Whether or not it will be a default skin is a separate issue; this is just a matter of having the choice. Eventually I'm sure we'll have a long discussion filled with essays as to whether it'll become default, but for now, we're only talking about installing it.

- I'd never even heard of "Suddenly, Bananas" until just now. Sometimes, two people have similar ideas. I apparently also wrote the movie "Swing Vote" without ever seeing it. That's not the point. The point is that we skinned ourselves exactly like Wikipedia so we'd look like a satire of them. Then they changed their skin. Now you want us to look like Wikipedia-two-years-ago so we won't be "plagiarized"? That's fucking ridiculous. 19:14, April 4, 2011 (UTC)
Well, I agree with you on that one (Although I do think the Wikipedia skin is almost as bad as Wikia's). There is still one thing pissing me off. Look at the images in the "Grue" Article. Then look at a picture of Domo-Kun. Rather similar, aren't they? Now, what annoys me is that, in "In-universe" perspective, it doesn't make sense. Does this mean Domo-Kun a Grue? Is Oscar Wilde really quoted Quoted over 2000 times? Doesn't make sense in my point of View.
Now this is the same with ED, I Know. But some-times it's really hard not to think "Hang on, what am I doing in this poor man's ED?". Because, to me and other ED users on this site. Apart from the Big ugly advertisements shown only when not logged in, this site does seem like it's much less angsty little brother. - LOL vandalz 19:27, April 4, 2011 (UTC)

Faking Wikipedias skin instead of really switching to vector ....
Sorry for bringing this thread back from the dead (and sorry for my poor english in advance).
Porting all of Uncyclopedias modifications over to the real vector skin would be lots of work (in our wiki we switched a year ago, and haven't been able to port everything because of lacking manpower).
An alternative (the german Uncyclopedia currently uses) would be to fake Wikipedias current look.
I put de.uncyclopedias CSS here, and if you would copy that over to MediaWiki:Common.css Uncyclopedia would look like this --Nachteule 00:39, May 26, 2011 (UTC)
- Oh yeah? If we switch you over to a really good looking woman you could suck me. Wikipedia has a boring blue look and you have to go all the way to the top to search. And what's that huge space between the two things on the top bar? What is that space? Keep the search in the middle, and be happy all the days of your life. Aleister 00:47 26-5-'11

- I bow to Mr. Nachteule, who is my new fantasy and role model. To be more serious, I for three have the exact problems with the wikipedia skin that I mention. Putting the search box on top seems counter-productive, and what is that large open space in the top "menu". Not to mention again the pale blue look of the page which tends to subdue the reader and put them to sleep. Yummy "Al" Aleister 1:39 26-5-'11
- Redesigning those tabs is like your giant magic wand ... a pain in the ass. Wikipedia split those tabs (left are viewing page & talk and right all the "action" tabs followed by search). I put that space in there to follow that seperation (viewing/ action), but it's just CSS and can simply be changed to no giant space between those tabs
- "search on top" makes sense (if we want to parody Wikipedia) because they have it there (and people in general are getting used to look up there for site-search)
- By the way, most Uncyclopedia visitors don't even know this site has a search, because those dumbfucks are too stupid to properly install software and and up like this ;)
- That pale look mimics Wikipedias pale look, that's why it's pale. But again, it's only CSS so we can give it a touch of pink if you like :) --Nachteule 02:04, May 26, 2011 (UTC)

The look can be faked a lot more effectively than that - I said this before, but again, see Inciclopedia, for an example. I was working on a sporked skin from there, though, trying to get it more similar to proper vector appearance whilst being at least somewhat cross-browser and OS compatible (css3, at any rate), but I don't actually recall what I did with it. But, er... if we want to make it look like vector, we should do it right, no? Actually make it look like vector. And such. Although someone should really fix the addPortLetLinks thing... *wanders off, mumbling* ~ 04:01, 26 May 2011
I strongly support switching to Wikipedia's vector skin, as unlike Aleister in Chains, I find it to be far superior to our skin. The bigger, blue tabs look way better than the drab, tiny tabs we have on our skin, and the search bar is far more conspicuous when placed at the top. Thanks for bringing this up, Hyperbole. Heck, I'll oversee the transition if it comes to that (or take orders from the admin who oversees the transition, you get what I mean!) --Scofield & Dudes 10:20, May 27, 2011 (UTC)

- Before they killed Monobook, Wikipedia used to have the search box at the top of the sidebar. We can put it there too, by adding
* SEARCH
right at the top in MediaWiki:Sidebar. - We fixed the auto-suggestion-feature [1] but right now, there often is not enough space for the dropdown menu (for people without biiiig screens). Placing search on top would fix this too. --Nachteule 12:06, May 27, 2011 (UTC)
