I notice this section seems to repeat itself a lot, and I remember reading somewhere that the DYK's get picked at random. Would it be possible to mirror Wiki more and have DYK's leading to recently featured works? That way, instead of it retreading a lot of the same old puns, it could highlight a bit of UnKnowledge these articles impart, e.g.:
Did you know...?
- your grandmother only tells you things she can't remember properly?
- John Travolta played Stephen Hawking in Look Who's Talking?
- Reservoir Dogs was inspired by monopoly?
I realise this would mean more upkeep, but I am sure us feature whores would be happy to pick out a factoid from our own glorified articles.
- Some puns are on heavy rotation. I will have a look. --RomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 10:55, December 22, 2012 (UTC)
- There is an invisible ratio between the traditional non-article based "DYK"s and the feature-based "DYC"s. I don't know when the last time we updated the DYCs to the current feature crop, though. It'll be a nice lil project to get started. --
- WELP it appears that my notion of such a system existing is outdated, turns out that Xamralco took it upon himself to thin the DYK list down to a much smaller base of entries while getting rid of DYC completely. This means two things:
- Good for him for taking initiative to get rid of all the shit things, but because it's a lot smaller of course it's repeating itself a ton now
- He completely more or less fucked up the entire border between DYC and DYK, so restoring all the old entries into the mainpage template is going to take a hella long time and be hella arduous, PLUS we need write-ups for all the new features too. So that's the state of that right now. -- 06:55, December 24, 2012 (UTC)
