2011 Vancouver Stanley Cup Riot
“VENGENCE FOR THE CANUCKS!”
The 2011 Vancouver Stanley Cup Riot was a public disturbance that took place following the Vancouver Canucks loss to the Boston Bruins in the 2011 Stanley cup finals. During the riot fans of the Canucks ransacked downtown Vancouver via stealing from stores, lighting cars on fire, and lighting campfires to keep warm because contrary to popular belief, Canada is rather chilly.
Background[edit]
On June 15, 2011, the Canucks had dredged their way into relevance and were having a successful season. They had finally made it to the Cup finals after sacrificing their souls to Gary Bettman. All seemed well, until they faced the Boston Bruins. The resulting game was a massacre as both goalies and the Emergency Backup goalie had managed to get their wieners stuck in their home arena's walls. As a result, the Canucks were forced to sign 12 year old "Little Littleton" to a 3 hour contract. He served as the starting goaltender during the game.
However, the youngster had yet faced slapshots up to 80+ mph. Henceforth, he gave up 37 goals. He had one save where a Bruins player tripped on a patch of slippery ice, which allowed him to cover the puck before getting body slammed by a Bruins player. Littleton was sadly buried in the minors following this embarrassing loss, and he never made another NHL appearance during his 3 hour career.[1]
The Riot[edit]
The fans of the Canucks were distraught, they had waited all season just for a 4-0 series sweep. They broke down in tears, wishing they could do something to help their team. Then, it dawned upon them... Clearly the game had been stolen from them and was not their own team's fault. It was the storefronts of Vancouver! They gathered in a crowd, all united by one purpose...
