Paris Hilton caught with Francium |
29 August 2010
LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- US socialite and paparazzi darling Paris Hilton was arrested in Las Vegas on charges of francium possession, the entertainment website TMZ.com reported Saturday.
Francium is the most highly radioactive metal in the world. It is also the most illegal substance known to science.
Hilton was the passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over late Saturday outside the five-star Wynn Las Vegas Hotel, the website said, quoting police, who said their Geiger Counter picked up intense radioactivity coming from the vehicle.
The driver was arrested for DUR (Driving Under Radiation), and when officers searched Hilton, "they found her in possession of the highly controlled substance" which turned out to be Francium.
Hilton "was arrested and released on her own recognizance," TMZ said. “She can look after her self.” When Hilton was asked why she had Francium, she just giggled and said, “it keeps me all charged up, and it’s just so neat.”
It has been an eventful few months for Hilton, who was briefly detained by police in July on the French island of Corsica after being caught with a highly radioactive isotope in her handbag.
Hilton was also arrested during the World Cup in South Africa after a friend she was with took a radioisotope to the Brazil-Netherlands quarterfinal match in Port Elizabeth.
Hilton, the great-granddaughter of the Hilton hotel chain's founder, shot to fame in 2003 when her boyfriend leaked a video of their radioactive escapades on the Internet. She also starred in the reality TV series "The Radioactive Life."
