EDINBURGH, Scotland -- Speaking with the BBC on April 11, Dr. James Hansen, NASA scientist and the beloved creator of the Muppets, denounced the use of coal power, warning of its effects on the environment.

"For base load electric power, I think that we need next generation nuclear power, which can be much safer and which can burn nuclear waste and solve that major problem with nuclear power," Hansen told Newsnight Scotland after refusing to sing "Mana Mana". Hansen was in the city to be awarded the Edinburgh Medal at the Science Festival, at which it is hoped by hundreds of fans that he will talk about what it was like to create Kermit the Frog.

This is the latest push against carbon-based energy by Hansen, who has cautioned the scientific community for years about the impact of anthropogenic carbon on the biosphere and taught generations of children how to count and write with Sesame Street.

As of press time, atmospheric carbon dioxide stands at 392 ppm and it is not known when the next Muppets movie will be made.
