Correct behavior is for this to be on the right, with the text of the Forum to the left of it. The bug puts it alone on the left side of the page, with the Forum text below it.

Yes, thumbnails are rendering today incorrectly: text is not floating around thumbnails defined as thumb|right or thumb|left. Puppy confirms this on six different browsers, and logged-in and logged-out. He also reports that another Wikia wiki has new behavior involving the VisualEditor, which would make him the first Uncyclopedian to see actual evidence of its existence. Spıke Ѧ 12:47 7-May-14

I have phoned this in using Special:Contact (ticket: 135942) and Puppy has emailed Sannse. 12:51 7-May-14 George Marbulcanti of Wikia replied, "I am seeing the same issue, and I have flagged this up with the technical team for urgent investigation. Apologies for this issue, and best regards." Spıke Ѧ 15:02 7-May-14

Is this part of a 'leftist' plot? Answers are demanded, questions raised and suspicions stoked. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 07:33, May 8, 2014 (UTC)

Technical details

The HTML that Wikia produces is now different and includes <FIG> and <FIGCAPTION>. I've been able to re-create almost the same effect by adding the following to my personal CSS:

FIGURE        { border:solid 1px black }
FIGURE.tleft  { float:left }
FIGURE.tright { float:right }
P.caption     { font-size:smaller !important }

We could add this to the site-wide CSS, but I'm sure it doesn't cover all the cases, and the right thing to do is for Wikia render pages the way they used to. Spıke Ѧ 11:01 8-May-14

Formerly Forum:Trouble with justification of images

I don't know a way to fix PEBKAC, which seems to have all of its images left-justified and not aligned with the paragraphs. Could someone have a look? I am suspicious that this may be a PEBCAK issue ... :-) Phrank Psinatra (talk) 02:01, May 8, 2014 (UTC)

Looks like you put both 400px and thumb on the same image. You don't need both of these. Thumb automatically resizes the image to thumbnail size. So take out the 400px parameter and you should be set. See UN:IMAGE for proper formatting of a right-aligned image. The right-aligned image on that page is near the bottom (its the one of Tony Blair badly photoshopped). -- Simsilikesims(♀GUN) Talk here. 05:24, May 8, 2014 (UTC)
PS - It has been confirmed that thumbnails are currently broken and not right-justifying correctly. A bug report has been put in. See related forum.
Thanks!!! Phrank Psinatra (talk) 03:25, May 9, 2014 (UTC)
OK, now I have a problem with no captions! :-( Phrank Psinatra (talk) 23:15, May 9, 2014 (UTC)

Update?

Sorry haven't been active much for the last few days, any progress on this? Sir ScottPat (converse) White Ensign.gif Scotland Flag 1.png Compassrose.gif VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 09:51, May 10, 2014 (UTC)

Yes -- Got my pictures to justify properly on PEBKAC, but now the captions are gone. Is this part of the same bug? Phrank Psinatra (talk) 13:40, May 10, 2014 (UTC)
You left out thumb. Thumbnails are the only illustrations that have captions. Separately, you need to end the line after the closing ]] or it has always produced bad code (unterminated <P>). Spıke Ѧ 13:57 10-May-14

Thumbnails Fixed

Seems to have been done now. Check current feature pages. --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 11:35, May 14, 2014 (UTC)

They seem to have added code (perhaps in the intrinsic CSS file) to respect left/right/center coding and make the text float around it; but the thumbnails are not as they were: captions are larger (Aleister's ritually boldfaced captions would now dominate the article text) and there is no gadget to zoom in on the photo. Fixed with unwanted knobs on :(? --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 15:32, May 14, 2014 (UTC)

Advisory from Wikia

Wikia's George Marbulcanti (Kirkburn) directs me to http://community.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:DaNASCAT/Technical_Update:_May_6,_2014, which says that the class names given to thumbnails have been changed generally. I will go to our Uncyclopedia skin files and try to align them with the new naming scheme.

...Where my first reaction is that we mostly did not specify either the old or the new class names (except for one case, noted at UN:HAX, where authors can specify transparent backgrounds for thumbnails). Conclusion: Our historical similarity to Wikipedia is because Wikia was historically similar to Wikipedia. Now Wikia is going in a different direction. Anyone for whom this is a deal-breaker, broke the deal already in 2013. I will work on MediaWiki:Uncyclopedia.css, assuming that anyone sticking with a different skin wants to see things the Wikia way. Spıke Ѧ 16:29,16:48 24-May-14

I see what they've done — they don't seem likely to undo it — and I have restored the Wikipedia-like border around thumbnails, the smaller captions, and the author's option for transparency on nonwhite backgrounds. I put that in MediaWiki:Common.css, though it will take effect on all skins, because that was where related code was. Don't think we will ever get back the widget in the lower corner with which to blow up the image. Spıke Ѧ 18:31 24-May-14

For the "widget" (or, as it calls itself, the sprite), I have added a placeholder "(sprite)" in the thumbnail caption. Right now, Wikia renders an anchor of class "sprite" with no image at all. I have asked George to see if Wikia can't give us ours back. In my personal JavaScript file, I have code to put something there:

$("FIGCAPTION A.sprite").html("<IMG src='http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20071211233544/uncyclopedia/images/thumb/c/c9/Symbol_against_vote.svg/13px-Symbol_against_vote.svg.png'>");

This could be moved to MediaWiki:Uncyclopedia.js (with the original sprite). Spıke Ѧ 17:20 25-May-14

Wikia announces at http://community.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:DaNASCAT/Technical_Update:_May_27,_2014 : "We are retiring the media attribution feature below image/video thumbnails - this means over the next few days the text under image and video captions will disappear as article caches expire." (Emphasis mine.) I will counteract this with local code if I can, but if this means that they intend that the [[File:...|thumb|...]] format not render the caption at all, we will have to file another bug report. Spıke Ѧ 14:09 27-May-14

PS--George replies: "It's just concerning the "Added by [Someone]" text that appears on the Wikia skin, underneath the caption. The caption text itself isn't going anywhere." Spıke Ѧ 01:35 28-May-14

Thanks for the notifications. Sir ScottPat (converse) White Ensign.gif Scotland Flag 1.png Compassrose.gif VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 06:57, May 28, 2014 (UTC)

And thank you for reading. As of this morning, pages are rendering completely without the A.sprite. I could write JavaScript to reinsert it, if anyone cares. Spıke Ѧ 10:53 28-May-14

I'm getting that stupid Sprite thing on the pictures on my talk page. Did Wikia let a hacker into the room where the computers are kept? Aleister 15:20 28-5-14
