Ben Shapiro[edit]

Alrighty, it's Shapiro's birthday today, and I haven't been able to come up with any decent stuff worth mentioning on the article, so I'm deleting the "Tactics", and moving the "Facts" into a separate section. Should we keep the "Death" part? (other pages such as Simon Cowell have similar parts) AVRONYX TALK 15:20, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

Always, always, always, the only point of having anything on the page is if it helps to be funny (or helps to set up a future section to be funny). It is very hard to get into the details of Shapiro's views, either as a defender or an adversary; again, see CoW#Extremists and WP:Poe's law. The history-of-the-future stuff, I have never warmed up to, as you never developed it. Spıke ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ15:53 15-Jan-21

I moved the "conspiracy theories" section to my userspace altogether. Also, I finally managed to add something for his "views" too. It's getting there. AVRONYX TALK 10:53, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

Howard Dean Starbucks connection[edit]

My bad; I got Howard Dean mixed up with Howard Schultz. Both Democratic presidential candidates with the first name "Howard".--HolUp (talk) 03:16, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

Fair enough. At any rate, a cryptic (to me!) reference about a secondary character seemed to detract from the biography of John Kerry. Second time in two days that I felt that your work fleshing out a passing reference might detract from the joke I was trying to tell. Cheers! Spıke ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ03:53 29-Jan-21

Yes I did. You are welcome to mention Uncyclopedia, especially if it's this one. But please don't spam the Forum. Marjorie Taylor Greene[edit]

Liked the joke with (Q) for Marjorie Taylor Greene's party allegiance in the QAnon article. She makes Sarah Palin look like a towering intellect. Now Trump has annointed MTG as a MAGA favourite, onwards and upwards in that Dept? Can we out wack a wack job??Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ยฎ 20:43, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

I have been sampling some more. Its reader comment section is literally people pining for Trump to be re-installed by any Deus Ex Machina necessary. When I comment, the thumbs-downs come out, as I appear to not be 100% on Trump's side. (Surely you have never gotten that opinion.) One gets the same leg-sniffing when dealing with anti-abortion Republicans.
"Towering intellect"? Do you have any problems with the Commander-in-Chief?!
It is astonishing that the new Congress's priorities have been to (1) trash Trump (and ironically keep him on the front page in media that refuse to cover anything he says and (2) go after Greene and Lauren Boebert. This last I consider an attempt to deal with their slim 10-vote majority (meaning they cannot afford to lose 5 votes). Boebert I found interesting. Greene I know nothing about except that she is "associated" with QAnon by retweeting, by which standard I risk being exiled, so "we" are not going to out-wack her, though if "you" do, I may be along to copy-edit, and do misspell and use double quotes for Yank topics. Laura Loomer, a more relevant personality, did not get elected. Spıke ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ21:33 1-Feb-21
There will be time for more Biden jokes (if I can think of some). Laura Loomer, she has sort of disappeared a bit. I think she has been out-looned by Marjorie Taylor Greene. BTW, has anyone told Ben Carson that it's all over. Is he still in his office with that pricey furniture??? Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ยฎ 01:04, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
Sure, until Biden's own Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Marcia Fudge, gets her inevitable confirmation. Loomer has neither been out-looned nor out-loomed but out-targeted. If you ever draw a blank on Biden jokes, leave it to me, they write themselves. Spıke ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ01:44 2-Feb-21

I see you have created the article, Romartus, converting Jimlemon's smallish UnNews. This is an improvement.

MTG is nuts. Compare Todd Akin (rape victims auto-abort), Mourdock (God loves even the products of rape) and the witchcraft fan from Delaware around the same time.

The problem is that MTG is not notable, except by being the biggest nutcase in the Congressional Class of 2020, and thus the focus of a partisan effort to make Republicans eat-their-own. There are always nutcases in any 200-member faction. My concern is that merely making her out as bigger than she is feeds the partisan campaign.

I will delete the piece about "stealing the election" (as the Uncyclopedia article takes a position and does not contribute humor except for a tedious shadow reference to Goebbels) and inclusion in {{GOP}}; as I wrote earlier on your talk page, MTG is a caricature used to attack the party, and party templates should include not just attacks from the other party but personalities who have come to represent its mainstream. Spıke ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ01:44 11-Feb-21

Since Mitt Romney said she was on the Kook wing of the GOP, can't see why Greene's name is left off the template. I accepted the removal of Sidney Powell (Kraken Lady) but Greene is an elected official for her party. Like Lauren Boebert. Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ยฎ 14:42, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
There are 250 elected officials of each party. She's not as notable as the others in the template (except as a target of the opposition) and the article's not terribly notable yet. Spıke ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ15:18 11-Feb-21
What does she need to be notable? Would Josh Hawley be notable or not notable?? Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ยฎ 15:33, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
For a fringe position on a single vote? Certainly not! Cruz is, but only because of his Presidential campaign. "In the news lately" does not merit inclusion on a nav-template. Spıke ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ15:41 11-Feb-21

User:Sog1970/Boston Tea Party Etiquette[edit]

Since we were discussing American history the other day... I noticed the Boston Tea Party article isn't great. Then this happened. It's unmerge-able with what's already there. So, it's a choice between replacing Boston Tea Party entirely, or uploading into Mainspace with the current title. What wouldst thou? Sog1970 (talk) 22:07, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

I'll take a look shortly. In general, if an edit constitutes a replacement-in-its-entirety, you should run it through VFD. Your article name should have lowercase "e", but people will be much more likely to find it under the shorter name. Spıke ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ22:25 29-Mar-21
Since your article is about the etiquette of the Boston Tea Party and not just the Boston Tea Party as a whole, I think both articles can coexist.--HolUp (talk) 22:29, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
Okay, on the old Boston Tea Party: The fact that it's "a girly name" and analogs were funny. Section 1 is Randumbo, followed by an "alternative theory" which is different Randumbo. In Section 2, HolUp and I and no one else will recognize the names as the members of rock group Boston. Then the sentences get really long, then we end with technobabble. Not really No Redeeming Value, but closer to that than to Featurable.
And on your new one: Writing style plus content runs circles around the old but โ€” cover your ears โ€” It is not an encyclopedia article! I would put it at HowTo:Host a Boston Tea Party. Spıke ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ22:36 29-Mar-21
Agreed. And done. Should have thought of HowTo. It's not as though I've never written one before. Someone should deal with (ie replace almost all of) the Boston Tea Party though. It deserves better. Probably not a Welsh-Canadian, though I may edit it a little if i can be bothered. Sog1970 (talk) 11:34, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

It looks like the template has only ever been vandalized by IPs and I have an edit I'm hoping to commit allowing for {{HowTo|subcategory}} sorting with safe fallbacks. Could you drop the protection level to semi? Dark Web, White Hat (talk) 07:46, 10 April 2021 (UTC)

No, I can't! The "Allow only autoconfirmed users" option is missing, as it is for another template I tried at random. I removed the protection temporarily. Spıke ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ08:28 10-Apr-21
Okay, thanks. I've made some edits to it, and that should be good for now. If you wanted to protect it again, you can do that; I've documented it at Template:HowTo/doc, Wikipedia-style, so the template documentation can still be edited even if {{HowTo}} is protected. Periodic Table[edit]

Moved to Forum:Interactive periodic table

Temporarily unprotect? I managed to get the conditionals for {{BASEPAGENAME}} to work (I made draft code here. Correct substitution and improper transclusion test cases look identical. In other words, it fails well.) Additionally, I have tweaked the style ever so slightly. They're not big changes, but I hope to make edits and document that the template should always be substituted, like wikipedia:Template:Welcome. Dark Web, White Hat (talk) 23:06, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Done, go wild. Spıke ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ00:18 22-Apr-21
Thanks. Dark Web, White Hat (talk) 00:57, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
We both created a documentation page at the same time, so I merged them together. Why do you say SUBST the welcome? I never do, for the reason stated in my documentation. Spıke ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ01:14 22-Apr-21
After some thought, I concede (a tad verbosely). Wikipedia's rationale is twofold:
  1. substitution of templates reduces server strain
  2. welcome messages shouldn't vary in a way that the user thinks they're going crazy (like: I could have sworn that message had an image of Oscar Wilde on it...did I misremember?)
As for the first point, Wikipedia is a massive project with over a billion edits so they forbid signature file templates being transcludedโ€”but signature files don't seem to be a performance hit for our smaller Uncyclopedia project. We stand at 265 transclusions of {{Welcome}}, and โ€“ even accounting for future growth โ€“ the performance impact from transcluded {{Welcome}} should be negligible as [t]ransclusion events occur every time the page is loaded; for users who are welcomed and never edit again, it won't even come up.
As for the second point, people probably don't have the same expectations here as they do for Wikipedia. The potato logo changes throughout the year, for instance. And occasional practical improvements to the template like adding {{Writing funny stuff}} and removing the chat link are good things. I suppose the template functions like an always-current pamphlet, able to give an up-to-date overview of the project; whereas Wikipedia already has plenty of documentation.
I conclude your idea is better.
By the way (no longer part of my explanation), while searching Wikipedia's community talk pages for technical information, I found an archived poll that amuses me, showcasing the folly of bureaucratic process: they take a poll to get consensus over whether a comma belongs after the opening greeting and before the person's name for their bloated Welcome template. Sometimes I think they're the funny ones. Cheers. Dark Web, White Hat (talk) 04:21, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

VFH nomination list[edit]

I know you managed to fix this problem before at but I can't see how you did it! --Laurels.gifRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ยฎ 09:39, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

The last time, I fixed it by replacing Nigel Scribbler's signature file with his plaintext username. This time, I fixed it by doing the same thing to your and my signatures โ€” even though the same three signed the nomination of New Panama Canal in the exact same way. I think that what's happening is that an inoccuous vertical bar is blowing up a template; I don't know how or why. Spıke ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ10:36 23-Apr-21

Undelete these?[edit]

DPL2 is fragile and confusing. Not to sound critical when I say: I think you broke the table you discussed at User talk:Sog1970#Swan song on VFH.

You deleted Template:Votevfh.dpl2, which is still being called in at least one page's wiki code as {Votevfh}.dpl2 but won't show up at Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Votevfh.dpl2 because it's a "phantom template" only being tracked by linking to a non-obvious template which lists pages using any DPL2.

I'm not sure what Template:Aag/avgvfh even did, but I'd un-delete Template:Votevfh.dpl2. For good measure, I'd also un-delete Template:Votevfh.dpl5 and Template:Forloop.dpl2. They seem to be helper templates, and I suspect reinstating them would fix the recent "Expression error: Unrecognized punctuation character "[".% " on Uncyclopedia:VFH/summary. Dark Web, White Hat (talk) 04:54, 1 May 2021 (UTC)

Sorry! I was working from User:Frosty/list of templates that are probably useless (useless probably based on short length). Undeleting the first restored the "health" score in VFH/summary. Spıke ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ11:24 1-May-21

Redirect this template?[edit]

Because I haven't bothered you enough lately. Could you redirect cascade protected {{Shortcut}} to {{Shortcuts}}, which is more powerful? You know, replace the page text of Template:Shortcut with #REDIRECT [[Template:Shortcuts]] like any other page. An anon started improvements and I finished it. Demo here for a comparison if you care. Dark Web, White Hat (talk) 08:28, 1 May 2021 (UTC)

Done. Spıke ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ11:25 1-May-21

Fixing the VFH templates[edit]

The prospective code I came up with last night looks like it will fix the issue. No guarantees it's bug-free, but it looks more robust than what we have now. There was indeed unescaped pipe in {{Votevfh}} near the "comments" parameter, which I fixed. I eliminated the buggy {{Votevfh.dpl}} altogether and went for a minimal approach without it; with this reduced complexity I haven't seen any limitation on signatures or templates in voting. There should be no loss in functionality, only cosmetic differences.

I'll use Swan song for the examples because it was the broken one, but it applies to all VFH pages. Uncyclopedia:VFH#Swan song will look exactly as the table does on Uncyclopedia:VFH/Swan song: rather than changing the article name to a vote button, it'll always be a vote button, and the table cells won't be subtly transformed. Demonstration that signatures now work at Uncyclopedia:VFH sandbox#Swan song and Uncyclopedia:VFH/testcases2.

So, anyway, if it looks good to you, I should be able to commit the edits if you temporarily unprotect Uncyclopedia:VFH and Template:Votevfh. Dark Web, White Hat (talk) 01:12, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

So be it. Spıke ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ02:00 5-May-21

Thanks. And yes. Though, oops, actually, unprotect {{Votevfh}} again for a moment: I didn't change it to use Category:VFH nomination but still Category:VFH nomination sandbox. Dark Web, White Hat (talk) 02:24, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, sorry about that. Until the server re-categorizes them VFH may temporarily not show all the nominations, but it looks like the system is working on it and all will be back to normal when Category:VFH nomination is repopulated. Dark Web, White Hat (talk) 02:41, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Barack Obama update[edit]

This article needs some updates regarding Obama's second term (Romney's defeat, Obamacare, legalization of gay marriage, Syria and Libya, the NSA situation with Snowden, etc.), as it mostly only seems to focus on his first term. Would it be alright by you if you added some?--HolUp (talk) 21:54, 7 August 2021 (UTC)

This Featured Article was devised by the Imperial Colonisation group, a bunch of Brits absurdly presuming to write about US politics, as Romartus still presumes to document our wingbat wing of the Republican Party. I strove with them at length, as they couldn't bring themselves to ridicule Obama, and the comedy strategy of the article is an increasing sense of paranoia. (That is, there is nothing wrong with Obama; the only funny thing is that all his opponents are paranoid.) I don't like their comedy strategy, but it's probably better to retain it (given that it's a Featured Article) than to strive for complete treatment of Obama. That was never the point of the article, written when a black US President was still a novelty.
I also saw you hacking at Joe Biden. This article needs more than completing or bringing up-to-date; the original comedy strategy is that Biden is a completely superfluous politician; which, in view of his election to President in his own right, is too counterfactual to be funny. Spıke ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ04:24 8-Aug-21
Technically, the article isn't Featured. It was nominated twice, but failed both times.
Personally, I don't see the article's entire strategy as being "there is nothing wrong with Obama; the only funny thing is that all his opponents are paranoid". If anything, the article also seems to mock Obama's alleged overstepping of privacy (wiretapping via coconut phone, "he was particularly alarmed at Bush's (and every other president in history's) tendency to let Americans run their own lives", the entire "cementing of power" section), and it also seems to riff on Obama as being a milquetoast centrist who didn't fully fulfill the promises of hope and change ("hope and change, apart from the obvious fact that Obama was not Bush, became hard to flesh out"). But this is just my interpretation of the text.--HolUp (talk) 05:59, 8 August 2021 (UTC)
Granted, that's not its complete comedy, but it is its strategy, and I wonder whether digressing to lay out the second term, before returning to the gathering-paranoia finale, is a good idea. Spıke ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ13:14 8-Aug-21
