As has been noted, I'm off for a while. I will be back, of that much I'm sure; when, I don't feel inclined to guess right now. Just wanted to say that I'm really disappointed and saddened by all the crap that's gone on here recently, and I'm not going to bother editing for a while so I can distance myself from it, and maybe, just maybe, enjoy editing here again. The people I care about here, you know who you are, and I'll be around in some of the usual places, because you do make my internet time fun. I thank you for that, and should we ever meet, you won't have to buy a single drink all evening (hey, they pay me well for the job I do).

For the record, I place the blame for all this recent crap squarely at the feet of Nintendorulez. That's why I removed my name from the "Spang vote"; it wasn't being fair to Spang, who has presented his case fairly and decently. Don't get me wrong, I'm not for a minute attempting to suggest something as petty as "ban Nin and I'll be back" (although y'know in print, that doesn't look so unreasonable...;-), but that his endless fucking whining and obsession over Euroipods has caused this inflated mess. Human nature is to take the piss, especially on a site that's supposed to be based around humour; and the very core of humour as I've always understood it begins with the ability to laugh at oneself. Shit, even I think I'm being a silly twat by acting like this now ;-) - but this is what I need to do, lest I fall into the deadly trap of treating the internet seriously, "as if t'were real."

See you in a while. -- Sir Codeine K·H·P·B·M·N·C·U·Bu. · (Harangue) 02:57, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Y'know, I was about to start a similar topic. But I don't find it fair at all to blame me for this. I never thought that starting a forum topic to politely request that my name be removed from an article would wind up spawning a massive flamewar, a handful of admins refusing to take things seriously, a handful of trolls, several people getting huge restrictions from UN:OFFICE, a debate to desysop someone over what wasn't even related to sysop powers, two users leaving the wiki... etc. I just expected a rational discussion in which my name would be removed, or, barring that, a decent reason would be stated as to why my name would be kept. How was I to know that things would get blown out of proportion like this? --User:Nintendorulez 03:29, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Nin, you and Spang should start a competition to see how many admins and users you can make leave. Anon IPs are worth 1 point, registered users 2 points, higher members of the order 5 points and admins 10 points. Time to get to work. --Uncyclon - Do we still link to BENSON? 03:58, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Obligatory Vote

Score: +2 people who are sorry for adding to this mess. This mess of drama. Or, if not this mess, specifically, then another mess. Another mess of drama.
  • My bad --Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 05:33, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Yes It's going to take me awhile to live my part of this down. --Hrodulf 17:33, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm leaving as well. This is just out of control, and I can't take it any more.

We have just utterly failed as a community. Look at this mess. One simple effort to debate whether or not users should be mocked against their will in the mainspace has gone horrendously awry. Many admins wouldn't take the discussion seriously. Many people flamed like there was no tomorrow. And a handful even trolled the discussion to make things worse. After a while, two admins decided to take matters into their own hands. As a result, one got pissed at the other and left the wiki. And said other admin is on the verge of impeachment. This isn't right. All this shouldn't be happening over one simple discussion to try and reach a consensus. Given how horribly immature this community seems to be, I've decided I'm avoiding the VD at all costs from now on. Flamewwars follow me wherever I go, so my leaving is hopefully for the best. Nobody seems to enjoy my presence anyway, so good riddance. I just cannot continue participating in such a fucked up forum. I'll still read articles, laugh at them, make edits here and there, vote on VFH, etc, but I'm leaving the VD and keeping my nose out of anything that tries to be remotely serious. We're just unable to handle serious matters on this site. Every single attempt at a serious debate we've had has turned into a horrendous shitload of drama. I quit. Goodbye.

Also, I would like to state that I think the cause behind all this is our rules, or lack thereof. Both are just waaaaaay too subjective, and not concrete enough for people to agree on things. The inability to universally agree on what is and isn't being a dick has resulted in everybody being a dick. We desperately need some actual rules to preserve order. No two users agee on what isn't and isn't funny or what is and isn't being a dick. No two admins agree on it. And thanks to two admins disagreeing over it, one left and the other might be stripped of power. It's ridiculous. It's not even funny. We need some concrete rules that won't result in disputes over their interpretation. Most importantly, we need a rule keeping usernames away from the mainspace. --User:Nintendorulez 16:50, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

nin, i don't know how to express this but yours has been a voice of reason through this entire fracas (lasting over a year i think?). and have you displayed exemplary conduct and infinite patience? i too cannot understand how the sheer simplicity of your position has bounced off so many dense heads to stir such a terrible controversy. your issue has been mercilessly used as a bouncing board for folks to flaunt their egos and sense of humour. though i *can* sense that something is terribly wrong somewhere in the present system, i wouldn't like it to be changed for fear of inviting a system that could only be worse. i also applaud some user's taking up the cudgels for you (though - and excellent conduct on your part - you neither cheered him from the sidelines nor did you ask for his support; you always argued your case alone). sometimes it's so hard to explain simple things to simple people (i'm defending mhaille now). i can only say that it's a breakdown of human communication and not the rules here or anything else. uncyclopedia is not for mocking users, not users, no way, and we cannot carry on justifying an edit when a user feels his/her name has been besmirched by its inclusion in the edit; especially not after 3,4,10 times of his/her protesting. Or beseech them to kindly search their souls for the meaning of humour. one objection is enough. and yes "nin" begins to mean "nin" around the third or fourth time "nin" expresses this apprehension - that's quite clear. anyway, i think i'm rambling now (... i'm certain i am).
folks think uncyc. is a frat house. well they should have spent a few days in one to understand that frat members don't insult each other, not in the face and especially not when the joke is lost on one of them. fraternities teach you when to take a hint: a punch speaks louder than words (i speak of "fraternities" in a holistic sense in the preceding sentence lest folks jump to conclusions). -- mowgli 20:04, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
The war is over. Don't be the last person still shooting on November 11, 1918, Mowgli. Let it go. Armistice has been declared. It's over. --Hrodulf 21:04, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Too much verbiage

Sure, Mowgli, but let's let everyone simmer down before we start talking about changes in policy, OK? There's plenty of time for that later. Still, I should point out that I wasn't taking up the cudgels for him — and I think he knew that. My first appearance on the associated talk page was July 15, 2006, and that was mostly just to help refute some nasty commentary from an AnonIP who turned out to be from ED. I actually tried to be civil with the AnonIP, but I was quickly called a "daft cunt" and several other highly-justifiable things... User:Codeine ended up blocking him for a while, and I haven't seen him since, but his comments are still there. The important thing, though, is that when I simply said that the practice was "bad for business," this person overreacted as if I'd said it was the equivalent of mass murder or something. (He even used the bombing of Dresden as a point of comparison at one point!) It was astoundingly stupid, and it helped convince me that something had to be done about the whole situation. It so astounded me that I wrote this response, one of the things I meant when I said "I tried making reasonable, well thought-out arguments" before finally resorting to insults and "flaming," which I obviously can't deny having done. Take a minute and read it if you want (the AnonIP from ED treated it as "TL;DR," as they usually do with anything over three sentences). It explains my entire position, which remains unchanged to this day.
We should still deal with the larger "policy" implications later, though. I'm not sure why I'm even writing this right now, to be honest, other than to further explain myself to everyone. I'm not asking you to take a "wikibreak" or anything, just let us all cool off, OK? And do they really have frat houses in India? I know y'all have the cricket bats, but do they use the same Greek letters and everything? (The frats, not the cricket bats.)  c • > • cunwapquc? 20:58, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
no, not really. we don't have frat houses in india. but i remember watching animal house (i almost typed animal farm -- it's been so long ago -- 20 yrs. ago) in college and prolly the sequels too if there were any. the world watches america. the world wants to be like america. there aren't any frats in india but yes, hazing is a ritual here in all colleges (prolly a twisted form of some brit tradition again) for freshers (freshmen) that often gets out of control (sadism, psychological torture, sometimes even rejection of college by frightened freshies). it's called "ragging" and lasts a week (and is the equivalent of "orientation week," lol). strictures were placed on ragging many years ago after a spate of unfortunate incidents and though it hasn't died, it's on the ebb. -- mowgli 06:50, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
I'm glad to hear it's on the ebb — it sounds horrible! Here in the States we call it "High School" and it lasts about four years, but other than having produced a nation of gun-toting maniacs, I'd have to say it isn't all that bad, really. Anyway, sorry about that "let us all calm down" thing before... I'm not sure what I was thinking!  c • > • cunwapquc? 06:58, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

I can't say anything in response to this without risking perpetuating this war, so I won't say anything at all, or at least not much of anything.
Goodbye, Nin.
--Hrodulf 17:35, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
hrodulf, there comes a time when you have to give up your joke (however ironical or rib-ticklingly lampoon-ish it may be -- and nin has ritually ignored you). your idea may be funny (it actually is) but a breathless patient in an ambulance may not care. i'm over dramatising, very true; but it's time you stopped pushing it. "goodbye nin" reads "good riddance" in your post. (something tells me that only the sane voice of benson can provide a clinching message that will get everyone's compass back in order. i'll leave him a talk msg pointing to here) -- mowgli 20:35, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
and oh yeah, 'cos we don't know how old or matured users spoken to here actually are, just in case you were trying to help nin grow up, i'd say stop. (i think nin can safely mature on his own if he is a teen or a kid and if you're lucky, he might even grow a sense of humour: that'll save you the trouble, right?) -- mowgli 20:42, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
Mowgli, you are very lucky. I have been in the worst mood lately due to personal circumstances, and you really don't want to hear what I would have to say to you if I was a worse person than I actually am. "Shit-eating cluster-fuck" would just be the tip of the iceberg. You don't want that, and neither do I, and neither does Uncyclopedia. Like I said before, the war is over. Don't be the last person still shooting on November 11, 1918, Mowgli. Let it go. Armistice has been declared. It's over.
You're entitled to your opinion, and I don't care about yours any more than you care about mine. And that's not a shot, bomb or attack, it's a statement of reality. And I think I've said more than enough on this overly chewed subject. Don't the lot of you think this little piece of gum has lost the entirety of its disgusting flavor? Spit it out and move on. --Hrodulf 21:12, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Zombiebaron isn't leaving, but he may become less active for a little while

So yah, exams in the next week and then I have a vacation from school, and hence computers, so I may become less active. But fear not I will be back in middle of January. Not that anyone cares (check out I didn't link to nobody cares...oops) --Sir Zombiebaron 18:20, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Good luck in your exams. I assume it'll be hard to to stop yourself quoting Uncyclopedia in your papers/tests... try and slip an Oscar Wilde quote in there, just for us ;) -- Hindleyite Converse 18:24, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
I have never written an essay (since discovering Uncyclopedia) which didn't have a title that was either a real Oscar quote, or a quote from someone else attributed to Mr. Wilde. :) --Sir Zombiebaron 18:34, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
Exams are no excuse! Zimbuddha.jpg Rev. Zim (Talk) Get saved! 22:34, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
I didn't say it was an excuse, but it does mean that I have less time. I still promise to fail all my exams because I patrol the recent changes instead of studying :) --Sir Zombiebaron 23:52, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
there's always Uncycloversity. -- mowgli 11:32, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Wikibreaks are good!

Everyone should take Wikibreaks. I take them fairly often, and intend to take another one very soon (which I'm sure will please you all to no end). Wikibreaks are healthy! They help you purge your mind of negativity, get a fresh perspective on things, look at the big picture, think in the long term. And if you want out of the kitchen for a while, it doesn't have to be because you can't stand the heat... It could just be that you're tired of cooking, and you want to actually eat something. (Other than shit, of course!)

As for new policies, sure, I won't lie to you all and say that wouldn't be a good thing. The resolution that was imposed yesterday, assuming it holds, is a band-aid, whereas new policy would be a cure. But we can deal with that later. Everyone who's burned out from this silliness should just take a break. I still don't know exactly why, but these interweb sites do cause stress, and that stress can mess people up for a time. I've seen it, up close, in reality, with my very own eyes, with someone I care about. That's how I know it's real, and that's why I do this.

God bless us, every one!  c • > • cunwapquc? 18:56, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

BENSON's Opinion

BENSON was just reading the first couple paragraphs, and then got too bored to read the rest. Anywhoo, BENSON thinks that people go to Uncyc to have fun or a good laugh, maybe at some anonymous IP. We shouldn't be fighting or disrespecting each other. We're all here for the same reason: to make fun of other people who AREN'T on Uncyc. Like Chuck Norris. Or Danny DeVito. So we should all start working together to build a site so full of disrespect for others that we become a family. Or at least extended family. Actually, that's pretty weird. I don't want to be related to you guys! But I think we should all try to respect the fact that everybody else on this wiki is the same as us: they have way too much time on their hands, and are pretty immature. Isn't that the reason why we're all here? Of course not, BENSON's here only because Wikipedia doesn't like him. What BENSON is trying to say is that we're all the same, so why attack each other? From now on, BENSON will try to do a little less fighting, and a little less work. What, BENSON's giving up his vendettas, he can't slack off a bit? Benson 21:57, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

LOL! - mowgli
I never thought I'd say this, but Benson is right. ("In other news, today hell has frozen over. Fighting a chest cold, the dark prince is reported to be bundled up in a knit sweater and earmuffs...") --Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 22:03, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

I think I speak for us all when I say that once again Benson has stepped in and saved us all from utter catastrophe. --Anyone 22:14, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your brilliant wisdom, sire. You have done us all a great favor. --User:Nintendorulez 22:19, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Wow. It must be a miracle. Or do I mean a tragedy? I'm not sure. Either way, he's right. -- Paw print.jpg 23:11, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

ALL HAIL BENSON! --Uncyclon - Do we still link to BENSON? 23:18, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Benson, you have once again enlightened us with your wisdom. HAIL BENSON! --General Insineratehymn 23:44, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Someone Educate Me

Is this just about the Euroipods thing or am I missing something? Could someone throw out a few links for reference, or is that what that armistice thing was about? I keep hearing about all this drama, and aside from a few forums I've seen I have NO idea what everyone's talking about. Thanks. It's Mrthejazz... a case not yet solved. 22:31, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Count your blessings. There have been several fights between multiple users, one case of cyberbullying, a couple of bans (one for a month!), three admins have left (not for too long, hopefully), at least one user who's done the same, and black eyes all-round.--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 22:42, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Um, that would be five admins. Splarka, Elvis, Codeine, Hinoa and Todd... ouch. And no, it's not just Euroipods - that just uncovered a whole lot of other shite as well. See here, here and here. The screaming is now coming from over here.
Er, there was also this crap, which nobody quite understands.-- Paw print.jpg 23:12, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
...and possibly Mhaille...--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 22:00, 6 December 2006 (UTC) Nope, he was just messing with us.--Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 22:33, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
Maybe I'm too n00b (entered sep 2006) to know people around here enough to say who is a dickhead and who is a reasonable person. But I'm just, definitely, out of this discussion. herr doktor needsAscalpel Rocket.gif [scream!] 23:24, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
By the way, why don't you create an article to explain us outsiders what the hell is happening? What about UWI (Uncyclopedia War I) or First Great War of Uncyclopedia? herr doktor needsAscalpel Rocket.gif [scream!] 23:44, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
It's a good idea, but I'm pretty sure this a) isn't the first war of this size we've had, and b) that everyone really just wants it all to go away. An article might just perpetuate the conflict - people arguing bias and misrepresentation etc. Plus, we already seem to have a bit of a narrative going with the whole Famine Won't Leave My House bollocks (see the last link I posted). But we could see what people think. -- Paw print.jpg 23:51, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
But FWLMH isn't coherent, doesn't count. I was hoping to make something like HowTo:Start a flamewar and/or drama. --User:Nintendorulez 22:46, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
