I noticed that lately our "On this Day" segment tends to run long, whereas our "Did You Know" one tends to run short. What about running a new feature under "Did You Know"? I thought maybe a horoscope, or a book and/or movie review segment (like Borges, reviewing works that don't actually exist) might be interesting to try.InfiniteMonkey 20:47, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Well, the idea of the front page design (as I understand it) is to parody Wikipedia as closely as possible at first glance; maybe those suggestions of yours would fit better on the UnNews page?
The main reason that the featured anniversaries run long is because they have one of the few front page templates that's freely editable (as opposed to new DYK's for example, which have to be admin-approved before inclusion). For quite a while I've been looking after the anniversaries as best I can, but even just checking formatting and parsing is already a pretty huge job, even without adding an extra 365 pages to my watchlist (and I'm not going to do that; I have a life). What the anniversaries really need is a good critical eye (or several) to look them over and purge some of the dull stuff out of the long dates. If I can find the willpower, I'll make a start on it, but any help would be appreciated. -- Sir Codeine K·H·P·B·M·N·C·U·Bu. · (Harangue) 10:33, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

In my mind, trying to make the front page as much like Wikipedia as possible is the entire problem.

(1) Nobody's going to get the joke, unless they spend a fair amount of time on Wikipedia's front page. I've been editing Wikipedia for over a year and Uncyclopedia for maybe 6 months, but I didn't even realize how close the resemblance was until about two days ago.

(2) Even assuming most people will appreciate the details of the layout, at best, it's a moderately funny joke... the first time. Then it's like, "Hm... visiting this site for the tenth time. Yup, still looks just like Wikipedia. Those wacky uncyclopedians. Yawn."

What I'm saying is that it would be better for readers to have a number of different features you could look at on the main page. It would also provide writers different ways to be humorous if we had features beyond just the "featured article". Editorials, reviews, whatever. We've got some extra space on the main page, we might as well figure out a way to be funny with it. InfiniteMonkey 21:05, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

It took you six months to notice the resemblence? Maybe the problem isn't with us... -- Tinymooose.gif » Sir Savethemooses Grand Commanding Officer ... holla atcha boy» 00:10, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
Hmmm...Mr. Monkey, I disagree. Not only is our mainpage awesome, but Wikipedia copied ours (yes, that's right!). Also, I vote Against any changes to our main page, and For InfiniteMonkey making his userpage into his own personal mainpage, and then adding whatever stupid features he wants there. --Brigadier General Sir Zombiebaron 21:09, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
I don't know, I like the idea of keeping it as close to Wikipedia as possible. That being said, I don't ever read more the DIY or "On This Days". But what would we put in their place, really? Featured UnBooks? Yawn. So overall my point is I don't have a point. Sorry for wasting your time. --Sir ENeGMA (talk) GUN WotM PLS 00:31, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

It would be nice if the DYK? were kept more up to date. I could do it if all the admins are sick of it. Freemorpheme.gif 09:16, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

I agree with this guy here, I'd help out too if we get more stuff in DYK.--Wit (tawk) 23:41, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
I think I mentioned DYK when I was nominated for admin. I still stand by the fact that if I am made admin DYK will be high on my "Things I do cause I can't do anything else" list. No MoneySign, I am not trying to get votes, just telling these two what they missed me saying. --Brigadier General Sir Zombiebaron 23:45, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
DYK is barely an admin job. The cabal should find a user who has a sense of humour they like and ask him to do it. Can you give partial privileges to someone? Freemorpheme.gif 23:49, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
If they could, they would have. So I doubt it is possible. --Brigadier General Sir Zombiebaron 23:51, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Also

We have radical reskins fairly frequently, and they change up the pace just enough to infuse some fresh humor while keeping a sense of continuity with the project. So... yeah. Against. -- Tinymooose.gif » Sir Savethemooses Grand Commanding Officer ... holla atcha boy» 01:03, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
