Am I right in thinking that we have too many Babel: Pages? I think that the Babels that have Uncycs of their own (such as fr:, es:, etc) should be deleted, or at least purged. ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 16:11, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

No, there are only four pages left in es: and less than a dozen in fr: - if the original Babble authors put their pages up for QVFD after moving them to the other Uncyc projects, we have been removing them. Most of what's in Babel appears to be hu: or pt: (which don't have their own wikis) and zh-hant: (Traditional Chinese, which doesn't have its own wiki - although there's one for the communist Simplified Chinese at wikia:c:zh.uncyclopedia). --Carlb 16:39, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
There are also Babel:De, Babel:He and Babel:El, all of which have their own Uncycs, so those Babel: pages should be deleted, is what I'm saying. ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 16:52, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
De has seven pages remaining, El has one page, He requested most of their stuff deleted when they went to their own wiki but has 21 pages left. --Carlb 17:29, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
That's my point. There are still many pages on our Uncyc that should be moved to others/deleted. ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 05:48, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
And also Babel:Ru, Babel:En (which should just be deleted) and Babel:La (likewise). ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 07:16, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
When they get up to 200 Babel pages, and then get their own wiki, you can start complaining. IF you speak that language. Heh. --Splaka 08:15, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
200 Babel pages? The only one at that level would be 正體中文 (Chinese-Traditional) 偽基百科 and even using Babelfish, this "false base hundred branches" is turned into virtually random nonsense in translation. Japanese has removed its Babel: pages, French never had many as it got a separate wiki rather early, Portugese has quite a few pages but not quite a brazillion of them. Hungary has a few bytes but not many or they wouldn't be hungry anymore. --Carlb 17:19, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
That's my point: We've had some reach 200 in the past (like the Polish ones), and we didn't have many people complaining about them. So: he can't complain until a non-english language reaches 200 pages here *and* has its own newly created wiki. Then we can delete. --Splaka 22:16, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
Err... I speak Latin. Basic Latin. Very Basic Latin. ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 08:45, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
Latin has their own wiki. With two pages. Which is two pages more than the arabic version. --Carlb 13:28, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
And I made one of those pages. Yeah, those wikis aren't very good. ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 13:42, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

No need to worry, those pages will get moved sooner or later. If you speak any of these languages, complain to an admin in the foreign uncy. About the 4 remaining Spanish pages they are kept for good reasons.--Rataube 00:23, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Which are... ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 05:58, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
To avoid braking too many links from external sites to pages such as the former Spanish Main Page, and redirecting the visitors easily to the new site. Happy?--Rataube 15:04, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
Ish. ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 15:07, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Ok then, seeming as you're not going to delete/interwiki them, can we VFD some babel pages then? ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 16:06, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Um, what do you mean "interwiki them"? An interwiki is a link like zh-tw:pagename? --Carlb 16:30, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
Transwiki, then. I sometimes have my sentences mixed down. ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 16:31, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
I'd suspect most of it (such as Brazil, Netherlands, Taiwan) does exist on the new wikis (that's why they were created). It would be best to check for missing images or subsequent edits before huffing anything, but plenty of QVFD fodder there, yes. --Carlb 17:09, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Taiwan and the Red China menace

The threat of Red China, used to trick Hong Kong's people into moving to BC in 1997

I'm having some problem following what's been going on with Special:Contributions/KaurJmeb with respect to the Taiwanese (zh-hant) Babel pages.

Taiwan (Chinese-traditional) has its own wiki, external and separate from mainland China (Chinese-simplified, so presumably different in language). The edits in question seem to be moving templates, removing templates from existing Taiwanese Babel pages, removing links from here to the Taiwanese wiki and leaving comments like:

from Talk:Main Page:

from User talk:Hant#uncyclopedia.org:

  • uncyclopedia.org 是wikia的計畫之一,wikia所認可的網址為語系.uncyclopedia.wikia.com,其他自設的的同名或同domain name並不在wikia的認可範圍內。--KaurJmeb 15:42, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

About all I've been able to decipher with Babelfish is:

  • (Uncyclopedia.org is one of wikia plans, wikia approves the website for the language family uncyclopedia.wikia.com, other from supposes of the same name or with domain name certainly not in the wikia approval scope. --KaurJmeb 15:42, 1 June 2,006 (UTC)) [babelfish translation]

Huh? This being in Chinese doesn't help, but last I checked the Uncyclopedia name (and the uncyclopedia.org domain) belong to user:Chronarion, no? What is this person trying to say? Presumably she has +s and some other official-sounding rôle on the central Wikia/wikicity, but is certainly not +s or anything else on this wiki. Could someone who speaks the language clue me in as to what is going on? --Carlb 08:23, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

I've talked to her about it. She is not staff here yet because she just made a user recently (just a technicality). The problem is, it seems, the zh-hant was created on uncyclopedia.info as a disputed wiki before the conset of the original zh (a combination of both) at wikia, causing some antagonism. I'll let her fill you in more (or if I get more info). --Splaka 08:45, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
I have some misunderstanding about these two Chinese uncyclopedia. I have strike and apologized to Hant. All I said was base on what I know (not very correctly). I don't know why User:Hant regard it as menace? -- KaurJmeb~~
I think he was just slightly annoyed by a combined one? Not sure, he must make himself heard ^_^. --Splaka 02:46, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

Apparently the matter had been discussed for weeks, both on the central wikia and on en:Babel:zh-tw, without getting any closer to a "yes" or "no" on this? If most or all of the discussion is in traditional Chinese, it's hard to be certain but that does appear to be what has been going on. As for the political history between Taiwan and mainland China? Each country claims that it is the one and only legitimate Chinese government, AFAIK they haven't been on speaking terms since the communist revolution. Chairman Mao changing the Chinese character set itself didn't help (in Chinese, the alphabet is the dictionary - as characters correspond to words, not phonemes - so this breaks things). Any chance that real-world politics has found its way into Uncyclopædia?

In any case, «¡The false base hundred branches - are free wickedly do the encyclopedia!» --Carlb 14:43, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

I become a subject for discussion? (@_@) At the begining, I do not think about the co-existence of a "combined zh" and an independent "zh-hant" (now termed "zh-tw" in English) Uncyclopedia. So, I might as Splaka termed "slightly annoyed by a combined one". But now, If "combined zh" Uncyclopedia respects "zh-tw" Uncyclopedia, and does not claimed itself as the only legitimate Chinese Uncyclopedia (want to be the PRC?), why not keep the two co-exist?--Hant 15:42, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

And the "menace" continues

Have you guys figured out a way to get rid of all these? I have put some of the pages on QVFD but still nothing has done about them. Seriously, I am kind of a native speaker of this language and if there is anything I can help, just ask! ;)

(If your computer doesn't like East-Asian languages, and if you are using Windows XP + Mozilla Firefox (or one of its variants), follow these instructions. This enables your computer (but not you) to deal with Chinese characters properly. Just check out my userpage.)
