115-year-old Benicio del Toro suspect in suspicious deaths

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bolden, recognized as the world's oldest person, died unexpectedly Monday in a nursing home, the home's administrator said, leading authorities to question the world's second oldest person as to his whereabouts and activities.

Bolden, born Aug. 15, 1890, was 116 years old, according to the Gerontology Research Group, a Los Angeles organization that tracks the ages of the world's oldest people. She was somewhat infamous, in that at the age of 14 she was accused of killing her parents with an axe. A popular children's rhyme told of the crime, of which she was later found completely innocent.

Emiliano Mercado del Toro, 115, of Puerto Rico, is expected assume the title of world's oldest person. However, del Toro was coincidentally visiting relatives in Memphis at the time of Bolden's death, said Capt. Robert Young, of the Memphis Police Department. Mr. del Toro is also unable to account for his activities at the approximate time of Bolden's demise.

Guinness World Records recognized Bolden as the oldest person in the world in August after the death of Maria Esther de Capovilla of Ecuador, who also was 116. Curiously, del Toro was also visiting Ecuador in August.

Police are in the process of questioning del Toro's friends and relatives.
