Saatchi Gallery displays new art work |
28 November 2013
LONDON, United Kingdom -- The world-famous Saatchi Gallery has put on public display its latest purchase, "The Sick Sloane Snorter." The painting, which shows a woman apparently trying to spoon something up her nose, was unknowingly purchased for £100,000 by gallery founder Charles Saatchi.
Claiming it was part of a huge stash of paintings that had been hidden away by two Italian sisters — Extravaganza and Chanel Grabbo — Saatchi said he was retrospectively proud to have acquired the painting and hoped to display more work by the same artist.
"I believe it is a selfie by Nigella Lawson. I thought she was just a second-rate chef with big breasts, but now I discover she was secretly painting on the side. It is an amazing find and I had no idea it existed until this week."
Other examples of her work in the recently discovered stash include Get Me a TV Deal in America and Washing Dirty Linen in Public. Saatchi hopes to provide more examples of Lawson's work soon.
