GULF OF MEXICO -- As the Gulf of Mexico continues to be flooded by the largest oil spill in galactic history, one conservationist with a famous family name is warning that the permanent effects could last up until December 21, 2012.

Philippe Cousteau Jr., the grandson of famous marine biologist, Jacques Cousteau, recently scuba dived into an area of the Gulf that was affected by the spill and said it was an "absolute nightmare".

All the dispersant is being absorbed by the oil instead!

Cousteau also said that a chemical dispersant being used to absorb the oil isn't working. "All the dispersant is being absorbed by the oil instead."

Cousteau told CNN,"We were about 15 to 20 feet down and it was almost pitch black throughout the water column in these billowing clouds that were just circling us, encompassing us in this toxic soup. It was very, very alarming."

Cousteau also wrote on his blog that his grandfather, Jacques would have been "horrified" by the effects of the spill on marine life.

"I know that my father and grandfather would have been doing this if they were alive and that they would have been just as horrified by what they saw as I was."
