Julian Assange is still on the main page[edit]
He looks gross. Would somebody please write some more UnNews articles so we can get rid of him? -- Snarglefoop (talk) 21:33, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
- I'm told that Spike wrote one recently but nobody's taken the extra steps needed to get it into the list. That should get probably get fixed (shortly). -- Snarglefoop (talk) 21:44, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
- UnNews:Trump awards Woods Medal of Sexual Freedom is still on this website, is listed as a Contribution of mine, is not listed in the RecentChanges to the UnNews namespace, and has vanished even from the DPL on the UnNews Front Page. Spike sockpuppet (talk) 00:48, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
- Since this article was added locally here, I brought it over to the new updated database with Special:Import. Pages imported this way won't show up in recent changes or any similar list. There might be a script to fix this. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 01:27 13 May 2019

- This issue seems to be larger than one article. There may be an issue with Spike's article header or categories but that doesn't explain the other problems. -- Snarglefoop (talk) 22:19, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
Incompatible lists of featured articles[edit]
The UnNews page and the summary on the main page show different sets of articles, and I'm not sure either one is actually correct. This may be another DPL issue. (It may also be an issue on the Wikia site as well, which unfortunately doesn't make it any less confusing or wrong.)
If you think I'm just looking at it sideways please say so -- I'd be thrilled to find that this particular mess wasn't actually a mess after all. -- Snarglefoop (talk) 22:17, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
- This mess is intentional. The summary on the main page is an editorial decision, the presence of graphic summaries on the UnNews Front Page is too. The two editorial decisions both require the UnNews editor to edit a template, and the two mostly coincide; in the old days, I had maybe five submissions a day and picked the best two. That designation would ensure that an article got both special treatments, though articles with text-heavy illustrations (Funnybony!) did not get a graphic on the Front Page, as the thumbnail photo would not be legible nor even a good tease. Everyone who wrote an UnNews got into the DPL list, though; and everyone who wrote a thoroughly awful UnNews that could not be massaged-in-place got a quick "mercy move" (Zim ulator's term) to userspace. - Following Spike's example, the current articles list on the UnNews main page ("Trending now") is restored. -- (talk) 02:02, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks! But our token edits to the UnNews articles didn't get them back into the DPL, as it keys off creation date. (You wouldn't want it keying off last edit; then articles would leapfrog one another and editors would use this cheap trick to always occupy the top slot.) Spike sockpuppet (talk) 02:36, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
- I see all the edited articles on UnNews:Main Page under "Trending now" ({{Main headlines}}). Are they not there for you, or do you mean some other list? ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 04:44 13 May 2019

- FIVE a DAY??? End of the day, going back over the comments to see what I overlooked, and I sure had overlooked that. That's just ... amazing. (I wonder if we can blame Twitter for the falloff in wiki activity.) -- Snarglefoop (talk) 04:29, 13 May 2019 (UTC)

HAH![edit]
Spike is, of course, correct, and the list of articles on the right sidebar on the front page has at last been updated. I was expecting something a whole lot more messy, sophisticated, and error-prone than a simple list of articles!
The top stories on the UnNews page are harder to deal with -- those summaries are actually entered by hand, with fingers on the keyboard, and I'm pushing that off for now (and who knows, maybe somebody else will jump in in the mean time). -- Snarglefoop (talk) 02:43, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
- Am not authorized to do so in my current guise, and our new owner has given me the b.s. line that Uncyclopedia doesn't have an email address for Spike in order to reset my password, but instantly will if he simply types in his Wikia Admin password, no sale. Spike sockpuppet (talk) 13:48, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
- Eh? This sounds like confusion or miscommunication. (We're good at both.) I'm not privy to what's needed to reset your password from our end, but if we just need an email address for you, well jeeze, that should be easy enough. (You should also be able to send it to the webmaster but I'm not sure that account is set up -- nobody's checked it, AFAIK.) -- Snarglefoop (talk) 14:16, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
- Since Wikia doesn't provide the user list, there is no possible way Spike's email address could already be in the database. Spike is a "stub" user with only a username, ID and edit count, created with information from edits, logs, etc. Logging into such an account with one's Wikia credentials causes StubUserWikiAuth to log in to Wikia as you, retrieve your email address and other preferences, and insert the password and the information it finds into the database.
- You can get your account back without typing the password, though. You will probably be able to reset your password if I take the email address and several other fields from Spike sockpuppet and insert them into the Spike account. I'll try this if you want, but it might not work. (We need more than just the email, unfortunately.) A surer method would be for you to create a new account and have it merged with Spike. A bureaucrat would use Special:UserMerge to merge Spike into the new account, then rename it to Spike and restore the user rights. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 18:34 13 May 2019
- Yes, please use the email address from "Spike sockpuppet". (How is it that this account has one, then?) Spike sockpuppet (talk) 21:24, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
- I've added the email. I've actually just tested this on another wiki I run, and it seems to work. Your other preferences will be missing, so you'll have to readd anything custom like your signature.
- Spike sockpuppet has an email address because it was retrieved from community.fandom.com when you logged in. I linked to the source code that does this in case it helps make things clearer. I don't totally understand it myself. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 21:48 13 May 2019
- All right, the Front Page now shows the six most recent articles. Spıke 🎙️22:47 13-May-19
