Forum:Ok guys, my latest creation: UnReviews (need feedback)
Well guys, my latest labor of love, my brainchild if you will, is UnReviews. That link is just a placeholder for now, pending what should hopefully be a good discussion here. First and foremost, I am thinking about creating UnReviews as a separate Uncyclomedia project similar to UnNews or UnBooks etc. The purpose? I was thinking about the spiffy new Roger Ebert article and got to thinking about writing an uncyclopedia review of a movie (didn't get far enough in the thought progression to necessarily pick one) and then the thought struck me: Humorous reviews of existing movies, books, products etc. in a parody style would be an excellent side-project here!
I want to test that theory now, I think this is a great idea (obviously, its my idea after all) and I want you guys to weigh in. Instead of just creating this out of the blue, I want to get feedback from you guys first.
Along those lines, I already made a project portal page, which you can view here (please do so!). The abundance of redlinks is not accidental. I want to get some feedback before I move forward with making this a for sure thing and go through creating the abundance of information pages, templates etc.
Before you comment or vote, please check out the portal page I made User:Skinfan13/UnReviews. This took a LOT of work and time, so please take that into consideration before you rip me apart and force me to abandon the idea. I'd really like to make this a reality, hopefully you will too!

- For. I would love to see this made a reality, and would love to finish the portal, and would love to create all the content necessary for this. All I want is a little community consensus first. -- 02:30 EST 9 Aug, 2010
- For. I like the idea. Plus Modus has written a couple of funny pieces that could serve as prototypes, as well as be the first of the new namespace. —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 15:43, August 9, 2010 (UTC)
- For. Sounds good. Had a look at your portal and I think you need some potato themes in the logo and stuff. I'd be happy to help if you want. --Dame 16:03, August 9, 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, that would be really cool. My chopping skills aren't that refined yet, so if you could take the header and put a potato behind the existing 'UnReviews' text, that would be super cool! -- 12:31 EST 9 Aug, 2010

- Yes, I am perfectly willing to admit that I sporked the vast majority of the code on User:Skinfan13/UnReviews from the other project pages. In fact, I just used my favorite parts of each page with my own personal twist on them, which I guess is kind of apparent. -- 02:32 EST 9 Aug, 2010
- I think this was talked about a while ago. I dunno why nothing was ever done. There was an article written in a review style which got feature a few years ago (about the Dark Knight I think) which always made me think UnReviews (or something similar) would be a great addition. It looks great. Totally support this. —HELL WHORE Mr. Antonio Yettie (talk) [16:43 9 August 2010]
- But make sure to keep the portal tidy. I hate messy portals. —HELL WHORE Mr. Antonio Yettie (talk) [16:45 9 August 2010]
- Movie reviews have the undeniably popular Category:UnMovie Review, which can be squeezed into your Portal. Also, that sentence works quite well during phonesex. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 17:07, August 9, 2010 (UTC)
- Looks good, you can add restaurants reviews as well maybe? also, please for the love of all that is holy, don't create UnReviewer of the Month ~ 19:36, August 9, 2010 (UTC)
- restaurants is actually a pretty good idea. I'll work it in shortly. Also, UnRotM thing, is that a reaction to the name or the concept? I can do without it or change the name regardless of what the problem is. -- Sf13 15:38 EST 9 Aug, 2010
- Changed "UnReviewer" to "UnCritic" if that makes a difference. -SF13 15:41
- No, it's the whole concept of another award, we really don't need another one. ~ 22:35, August 9, 2010 (UTC)
- It would be the only namespace without an award... can we put it to a vote? -- Sf13 18:55 EST 9 Aug, 2010
- Mordillo is right. No award. Maybe in a few months time? If things really take off that is. Trust me, he's right. It'd only go unloved and pick up cobwebs. Leave off, and wait until there becomes a need for it. Yettie the Middle Ground Man. —HELL WHORE Mr. Antonio Yettie (talk) [23:40 9 August 2010]
- Actually, most namespaces don't have an award associated with them - HowTo, Why, UnTunes, UnDictionary etc. What happens in most cases is that you get a lot of hoohaa and enthusiasm at the beginning and then the project dies away - and the award is either not active (see unbooks writer of the month and unscript writer of the month) or gets 3-4 votes per month (see Foolitzer, who is an old an established award). Thus, you create another award that either no one votes on or you distract people from voting on the more "established" awards that are suffering from low voting rate already. Give it some time, if the namespace is successful we can discuss it again. ~ 07:00, August 10, 2010 (UTC)
- Exactly what happened to UnProvise. Lots of enthusiasm to start with and then that died away (mine especially). Also doesn't Game have an award that no one votes on as well? —HELL WHORE Mr. Antonio Yettie (talk) [10:58 10 August 2010]

Feedback so far is positive
So I'm going to go ahead and mainspace this bitch and start working on all the subpages and shit. Templates soon to follow too, and then I'll move some of those old reviews to the new namespace. I'll keep you guys updated on the progress. --
13:12 EST 9 Aug, 2010- You'll move old reviews? And if you want any help with anything then just ask, although I'm sure you've got everything covered. Good luck! —HELL WHORE Mr. Antonio Yettie (talk) [17:35 9 August 2010]
- Thanks for the offer! If the work becomes overwhelming I'll definitely give a shout out! -- 13:47 EST 9 Aug, 2010
What a mess
So besides Category:UnMovie Review, there's also this:
L.A. Confidential My Left Foot Shack Out On 101 Meet John Doe The Southerner |
And I was also wondering if humorous Pee Reviews should be associated with UnReviews.
18:36, 9 August 2010- wow, looks like I have a bit of work ahead of me today. I guess my goal is to get the portal completely set up and then move whatever I can find into the new namespace. After that I suppose templates are next, but one step at a time. Maybe I could include such pee reviews under the UnReview library, but I would be hesitant to move them into the namespace and put the reviewing template on them, that could be somewhat confusing or insulting I think. --
- That template socky linked bugs me, because it is slightly ugly and those little images have a white background but are placed over a grey background. Tut. —HELL WHORE Mr. Antonio Yettie (talk) [18:56 9 August 2010]
- Well, we can make it die once everything has been properly sorted and moved. -- 15:15 EST 9 Aug, 2010
- DIE DIE DIE DIE! —HELL WHORE Mr. Antonio Yettie (talk) [19:25 9 August 2010]
- Or you could, like, improve the template. Instead of being hugely disrespectful towards its creator who also happens to have written those UnClassic Film Reviews, ya know. 19:40, 9 August 2010
- Actually, I think it would be a lot easier to use UnReviews as a portal for all the review articles, instead of treating it as a separate namespace and moving all the review articles around to get them into that namespace. 19:50, 9 August 2010
- I think all UnReviews should have the category though. And new UnReviews should be in the namespace but the few old ones can be left where they are. I think. Also, I think that template will no longer be relevant, though, after UnReviews is created. —HELL WHORE Mr. Antonio Yettie (talk) [19:56 9 August 2010]

Style
I'm also wondering whether UnReviews should have its own distinctive style, parodying some format commonly used by critics or something.
21:00, 9 August 2010- Yeh, I think so. Or at least suggested style. A five star rating system was already mentioned by its esteemed creator, I think also that their should maybe be a format of having the review look at certain areas (like PEEs concentrate on humour, content etc... actually). I dunno. There should be a style guide (like UnNews has a style guide) I think. —HELL WHORE Mr. Antonio Yettie (talk) [21:25 9 August 2010]
- Yep, that's what I'm going to focus on next. I'm going to fiddle around with it a bit and then make an example UnReview that will be under the beginner's guide. -- Sf13 17:37 EST 9 Aug, 2010
- Okay, cool. And are you just gonna have five separate templates for the rating system, basically? —HELL WHORE Mr. Antonio Yettie (talk) [21:44 9 August 2010]
- Something like that -- 18:45 EST 9 Aug, 2010

Everything is now made, UnReviews is up and running!
At this point, moving all of the old reviews articles into the namespace or putting them into the UnReviews category is pretty much all that needs to be done. Also, content needs to be created! Everything is a bit unknown or rough at the moment, but give it some time and I think UnReviews can become a pretty smashing thing.
so what are you waiting for? venture on over to UnReviews and start a new UnReview today! -- 02:11 EST 10 Aug, 2010
