Forum:Compromise skin
Just because we're not allowed to make drastic changes to the Oasis layout doesn't mean we have to stick with default Oasis for public view. I've put together a modified version of Fake Vector that AFAIK doesn't violate the policy. I suggested doing this on the RIP Monobook forum, but nobody answered. Now that this exists, here's a screenshot:
It's obviously not Vector, but it's also obviously mimicking it and very different from the default. I'm still sticking to the old version of Vector (except for the blue buttons), which is what we had before. We haven't looked like Wikipedia for quite some time. If you'd rather have serif headers and big gray text, let me know. I hate them, though.
Some of the color changes can be done through the theme designer, which is what you're supposed to do. Here is a screenshot of how far you can go with that. I would do that first.
The blue buttons interfere slightly with Fake Vector, so I'd have to add a few lines to it.
I'd also like to suggest some customization of log boxes and references to be more in line with Wikipedia.
Pink log box in action:
References (superscript footnote numbers are slightly smaller as well):
The latter is as close as we can get without using JavaScript. Maybe we can pull that off when I learn how to use it and fix common.js.
Would you like any or all of these changes? Is this a waste of time that would just make everything worse? If you'd like to try out "Vector-themed Oasis" for yourself, you can import User:Llwy-ar-lawr/fakevectorpublic.css. If you want this stuff on the site I'll do it myself so you don't have to dig through my CSS pages. If you don't, oh well. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 06:12 19 June 2018
- Thanks Llwy-ar-lawr. I missed that last comment on the Forum:Monobook. Regards the fakevectorpublic.css, by users creating their own css file, will this new version overwrite the existing ones we have tried or do we need to remove those first before installing this update? Also, I very much welcome your work on this immense project with the re-skinning. I can't be of help on the tech side since a clockwork orange always baffles me. I trust other users with java skills can assist on this. --
RomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 08:20, June 19, 2018 (UTC)
- No, it doesn't overwrite anything -- you'll have to remove or comment out what you've got if you want to try it.
- In marginally related news, personal JavaScript apparently doesn't work anymore. There's a check box in your preferences called "Enable personal JavaScript" that I stumbled on, and I tried checking that and I still can't get my js pages to do anything. Something is busted. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 05:51 20 June 2018
Serif headers and big gray text:
Actually we should totally do this. It's even less like Oasis, which is entirely sans-serif, and it's got the exact same font stack as New Vector including Linux Libertine which looks nasty at large sizes and most people probably don't have installed. But it's a free font (worth every penny) and the Wikipedia logo uses it, never mind that most MediaWiki sites aren't Wikipedia...
Typography refresh > Oasis though.
So anyway can we have a vote? ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 19:08 25 June 2018
- Also, we should get rid of the "Home" heading on the main page. Wikipedia doesn't have a heading there. Also I have watch stars. Do you want watch stars? We haven't had them in years. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 19:26 25 June 2018
In case anyone cares, personal js actually does work. I was misinterpreting what I was seeing. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 19:49 27 June 2018

- For. Hope the sista sites take notice. EDIT: Yeah, I like the New Vector fonts so I prefer the 2nd iteration. For the pink log boxes also if that's a choice with that. Extra mustard also. Well done, you! --

- Support either of my versions as well as the pink log boxes and references. I'd like to hear your thoughts on those too. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 06:08 26 June 2018
- Sure! Any change (we're allowed to make) from the base Wiki skin has got to be an improvement, and besides that this looks good. (Am I supposed to update a vote count or something?) Snarglefoop (talk) 15:12, June 27, 2018 (UTC)
- BTW Snarglefoop, why don't you use a sig file to sign your posts? Come to think of it (looking above), why didn't I use my own for ::this vote?? --

For. In favor of all visitors seeing Uncyclopedia looking more like it's inferior, unfunny imitation Wikipedia.

For. As admin of this wiki and as also a contributor of nonciclopedia and inciclopedia wikis. I think that Uncyclopedia need its vector skin back, but I don't know if this fakevector skin violate costumization policy, more probabily yes, but I don't know...--ΠλVƋX {disc} 11:02, June 29, 2018 (UTC)
- I specifically designed it not to. Their policy is open-ended, though ("It's impossible to create an exhaustive list of "do's" and "don'ts" for CSS, there are so many variations!"), so it's possible they'll come in and declare it to be a violation. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 19:07 29 June 2018

Comment: Will everybody who visits see this? DAP Dame Pleb Com. Miley Spears (talk) 01:47, June 26, 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm afraid. No one would be able to see a default Oasis look without custom CSS. If that's a major problem I guess we shouldn't do it, but it's still going to look like Oasis. The layout is the same. It shouldn't be too disturbing for people who are used to the rest of Wikia. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 06:08 26 June 2018
- What I meant was I feel it's better if we decide on a skin that visitors will see. :)

- I'm not a code person, I'm majorly confused. What are we actually voting on?
DAP Dame Pleb Com. Miley Spears (talk) 03:05, June 27, 2018 (UTC)
- Sorry, I misunderstood your original comment. That's exactly what we're deciding on -- I'm proposing modifying the site's appearance for everyone. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 03:15 27 June 2018

Explain, please
Forgive me for being stupid, but please could someone explain to me what this page is about? --PopePoppin'FreshI (talk) 16:26, June 28, 2018 (UTC)
- We're voting on changing how the site looks for everyone to make it as much like Vector/Wikipedia as Wikia's policy allows. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 16:30 28 June 2018
It's a done deal
Compromise skin is now live. Well done! -- (talk) 01:10, July 5, 2018 (UTC)
- Actually now that you mention it, I think there's sufficient consensus for it to go live. If there is no objection I'll do that shortly. I don't know how this closing-discussions stuff works. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 04:32 5 July 2018
I have implemented the first phase through the theme designer. Please stand by... ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 21:43 6 July 2018
- Yes, I think we can go live with this. --

- Done. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 22:53 6 July 2018
- I've edited Fake Vector 2 so the new truckload of code doesn't make it look broken. For some reason there's an inline stylesheet on recent changes that duplicates the site CSS and overrides Fake Vector. Further investigation needed but I'm going to call it a day for now. ❦ Llwy-ar-lawr • talk • contribs • 23:24 6 July 2018
- Now, I will say, I do love this marvellous new skin! It feels like an old 18th century book!

Cool but...
Some of the changes are actually ToU violations so please narrow all .wds-prefixed components into #WikiaPage and moreover drop all .wds-community-header stylings too. Otherwise a great appearance. MarTsok 21:43, July 9, 2018 (UTC)
- This also counts the most of the .page-header styles too. Such as excliptely the .page-header__title stylings. MarTsok 21:44, July 9, 2018 (UTC)
