Forum:Bot flags
Apparently I need community support to get bot flags. Bot flags will prevent this:
I'll try keep my wiki-killing edits to my main account, as this would just be for the repetitive stuff. Although if you really don't trust me, it's not like this would stop you from looking at the bot's contributions and checking from time to time, or from showing bot edits on recent changes...
What Haydrahlienne does
Something I'm apparently forgetting, since I can't even remember why I made it a separate account
- Makes subpages for converting lists to DPL
- Oh, Signpost, duh...
Which is annoying on recent changes, sure, but also does not require that it be a bot.
As a bot, however, it would be able to do more general other things that nobody in their right mind would want to pay attention to or care about, and that people really don't want to see flooding recent changes - basic find and replace operations like spellchecking, renaming categories and updating all of the contents (well, recapitalising and fixing the grammar of some category names, more likely... am I the only one bothered by that?) And other things I haven't thought of. Little things.
Anything new, or any changes that might actually change stuff, however, I'd at least pass by folks on IRC, see if any of them think it's even a good idea, assuming anyone worthwhile is even on. If it'd be a more major change/thing, a forum would be in order instead, as community input with such things is important so that I can finally get fed up and ignore everyone after all like I did the last time. Er... I mean... so consensus can be reached so that it can act accordingly.
I'm not technically competent to do real bot stuff, though, sorry. None of this requires that it actually is a bot that I know of, either; I just want to get the blasted thing off recent changes while still doing spammy stuff, some of which would be a lot more spammy than what I do now, which is already annoying enough.
Obligatory poll: Should we put a Bot flag on Haydrahlienne (Talk • Contribs (del) • Editcount • Block (rem-lst-all) • Logs • Groups )
This is null and void until Lyrithya specifies what the bot does and how often it does it -- Prof. Olipro KUN (W)Anchor Op Bur. (Harass) 00:45, April 11, 2011 (UTC)
- Also, it really shouldn't do any user greetings, especially not massive ones like last nights. MegaPleb • Dexter111344 • Complain here 00:52, April 11, 2011 (UTC)
- Agreed. I didn't look closely at the picture, I thought it was a picture of her delivering the UnSignPost. -- Brigadier General Sir Zombiebaron 01:04, April 11, 2011 (UTC)
- Okay. I'll keep that to this account, then.

- While bots shouldn't do what "regular users" do, like mass welcomes (since the idea of welcoming a user is also to give them a user account to go to for help), none of the other bots on the wiki have had a specific purpose. It's mostly just for "mass edits that people don't need clogging up RC" and that's about it. If you want specifics I could hazard a few guesses: delivering the UnSignpost, categorizing, and not being Zombiebaron. – Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize • writings • SU&W) 14:07 Apr 11, 2011
- You're right of course that they didn't, but that's not necessarily a good thing. -- Prof. Olipro KUN (W)Anchor Op Bur. (Harass) 09:01, April 13, 2011 (UTC)
- My bot's purpose is create a robotic parody of my SSGP. The image categorization stuff is just for "legacy building" --Mn-z 23:28, April 18, 2011 (UTC)
- Haydrahlienne's my bot.

- Obvious duh. Since when were bot flags a big deal? Used to be you could just walk into #wikia with an admin backing you up and get one. – Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize • writings • SU&W) 23:28 Apr 10, 2011
- For. Also, I would like bot flags for my bot. -- Brigadier General Sir Zombiebaron 00:43, April 11, 2011 (UTC)

- Abstain. I don't know what a bot flag is, but I had a botfly, once. I woudn't recommend it. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 10:23, April 11, 2011 (UTC)

- A botflag means that account's changes don't appear on Recent Changes unless you select the option to show bot edits. It also removes an edit rate limit meaning the account can make very large numbers of page edits per second. -- Prof. Olipro KUN (W)Anchor Op Bur. (Harass) 12:16, April 11, 2011 (UTC)
