The Vice President is but a heartbeat away from the Presidency. Apparently the current Vice President, Dick Cheney, has not been informed that the heartbeat in question is the President's and thus he has refrained from letting his heart beat on numerous occassions so as to avoid assuming the presidency.

There is considerable debate about the power of the office of the Vice President. One former veep described the office as "not worth a pitcher of warm piss," while another asserted that, "well, yeah, that about describes it." In fact the office was originally created as a way to get rid of John Adams, whose bison powers were becoming annoying.
