Irresponsible Hecklers urge on hesitant busker |
1 March 2007
Police have condemned hecklers who urged a man to "get on with it" as he threatened to sing a Chas and Dave medley. A crowd gathered as the 21-year-old was perched on a wooden pallet in Mexborough, South Yorkshire, while officers tried to calm him down.
But some onlookers started shouting at the man, suggesting he start his performance with such classics as "Snooker Loopy", "Diddlum Song" and "Rabbit". Trained negotiators later arrived at the scene near the town centre and eventually persuaded the man to sing a few Oasis and Nirvana numbers instead.
Pc Mark Dyson was most frustrated with the behaviour of the onlookers, "there were small children present, I don't need to tell you the trauma they would have been put through had they been forced to listen to that infuriating cockney shite."
Dyson, of South Yorkshire Police, added: "It was incredibly frustrating to see this happening when we were just trying to encourage the guy to sing a more tasteful selection of songs."
Chas and Dave, in a statement this morning said, "Cor blimey, ere up guvnor, strike a light will yah! apples and pairs, apple and pairs. Say no more say no more!"
The unnamed man is thought to have earned nearly £1.70 after he completed his set.
