Unlike most Animes, this one gets weird right from the start.

“So...it's bleach if they could turn into weapons?”

~ Oscar Wilde on Soul Eater

Soul Eater is a manga, television, video-game, and convenience-store franchise about students who train at Death Weapon Meister [sic] Academy; namely, Maka and Edward Elric "Please! call me Soul Eater" Evans, Black Star, Tsubaki, Death the Kid, Liz, Patty and a Dog Named Boo.

Plot[edit]

Meister Maka Albarn and her partner Soul Eater are students at Death Weapon Meister Academy—"DWMA" for short—located in Death City in Nevada, United States. The school has many other students, including Black Star with his partner Tsubaki, and Death the Pimp with his partners Liz and Patty. The school is run by Shinigami, Death himself, as a training facility for weapons and the human wielders of those weapons, the heterosexuals. Maka's goal, along with the other heteros, is to have their weapons defeat and absorb the souls of 99 gay humans and one bitch, which will dramatically increase the power of the given weapon and turn them into death scythes, weapons capable of being used by shinigami. In the universe of Soul Eater, bitches are powerful beings and the natural enemies of DWMA, as almost all of them have a kind nature and desire harmony.

Shortly after the start of Soul Eater, Maka and Soul Eater face off against the forces of the bitch Medusa, who forces her child, the meister Crona and wielder of the demon sword Bagel, to collect non-evil human souls to transform Crona into a hallow kishin, an evil demon god. Medusa and her cohorts attack DWMA with the intention of reviving weegee, the first hallow kishin who nearly plunged the entire world into madness before being sealed beneath DWMA by Shinigami. Despite the efforts of Makas Makachop (which killed hundreds, by the way), Medusa's group successfully revives weegee, who leaves to spread chaos around the world after a brief battle with Shinigami. However, Medusa is seemingly killed by the meister and DWMA teacher Franken Stein in the process, while Crona surrenders to DWMA and goes on to enroll there and befriend Maka.

Neither can I.

As a result of weegee's spreading madness, Medusa's older sister Arachne comes out of the closet after 800 years. Arachne reforms her lesbian organization Lesaphobia, which poses itself as a serious threat to DWMAs women. Shinigami calls in death scythes from around the world to aid in the fight against Lesaphobia. During this time, Medusa resurfaces with her soul in the body of a young girl, and forms a truce with DWMA so they can annihilate the threat of lesaphobia together. The DWMA students and Medusa's entourage infiltrate Lesaphobia's headquarters where Maka defeats Arachne, only for Medusa to betray DWMA, possessing Arachne's body and brainwashing Mama Luigi into rejoining her. Meanwhile, Death the Pimp is captured by Noah, an enemy posing as the former meister Chuck Norris. Following this, Maka finally succeeds in turning Soul Eater into a death scythe. The duo become part of the newly formed meister unit Spartans, which are unsuccessful and fail to rescue Death the Pimp and take down Noah.

Differences in the anime adaption[edit]

What would an anime be if it followed the manga completely? (Except accurate, also restricted to purchasers over 21 years of age.) The only true difference is the anime has less nudity and a little less blood.

Soul Eater Not![edit]

Soul Eater Not! is a prequel that focuses on Meme Tatane, Anya Hepburn, and other characters with names you'd only give them if you were Japanese and had just finished a two-week whirlwind course on American Culture, a course not to be confused with the NOT (NOT Overly Taught) class at DWMA, which the protagonists are in. NOT is the original recursive acronym, as the NOT stands for....and so on. The course teaches our heroes to overcome their difficulties and live a normal life, a life unlike that of any manga fan. Antagonists in the main series are minor characters in Soul Eater Not! and some who are supposed to be dead are still alive. My Weekly Manga Reader has rated this prequel "an entertaining introduction to the Soul Eater franchise. Not!"

Characters[edit]

Maka - Soul's partner and wife. Well known for her infamous Maka chop that rivals the falcon punch. The only reason she puts up with Soul is because she enjoys the challenge of a (slightly) fair fight.

Soul "Eater" Evans - Maka's partner and Husband (under threat of death). He has the ability to turn into a badass syth and at the end of the series looks even more badass.

Black☆Star - An attention whore, who is basically a ripoff of Naruto Uzumaki, but with blue hair, and a marginally better outfit. He is known to be the only person to beat Darkwing Duck at being the most egotistical. He is a failed ninja who almost always gets pwned by even the weakest of enemies, until he does generic shounen stuff, and becomes 10 times better.

Tsubaki - The only character I feel sorry for because she has to put up with Black Stars B.S. She can become any thing from a Chain Scythe to a toaster.

Lucky bastard.

Death the Pimp - Although he's the GRIM REAPER'S SON, he isn't as badass as you think. He is obsessed with perfection and demands every thing to be so (even Liz and Patty's boobs). He is also the luckiest mother f##ker at the academy because while they get scythes, swords and crap like that, he gets guns.

Liz And Patty - Twins and the ONLY characters allowed to turn into guns. They are rapists who try to seduce Death the Pimp (who is supposedly gay) all the time (all failed attempts) as pictured.

Blair the Witch/Cat - A cat who can turn into a hot witch and the only cat I would have bestiality with.

Lord Death - Imagine Grim (from Billy and Mandy) without the Jamaican accent, and less serious.

Crona - An extremely androgynous person. He She It (lets leave it at that) is the most nervous person in the entire series, with a self confidence so low, it basically cancels out how badass Crona actually is. And for some reason, it has black blood, which makes it invulnerable.

Ragnarok - Somehow, this... thing? Demon? Tim Burton-esque character? Anyhow, this guy is not only Crona's blood, but also, its weapon. Nobody gets this, but it's badass enough to be ignored.

Medusa - The best mother of all time. Treated Crona with love and kindness. She seems to be based off of Medusa from greek myth, or at least, the name seems to be as such. The only other similarity, is that both are affiliated with snakes. The most prominent difference, is that Medusa (anime) is acutally attractive.

Spirit - Maka's perverted dad. He couldn't keep his hands off of other womem and now he's just a divorced bum living alone in a cardboard box somewhere, sometimes taken into custody by his boss, Pimp Daddy Death. Lost all custody of Maka whatsoever and there is no evidence of him possessing his own area of residence, or even a method of transportation. Also known to be found hanging out on top of balconies and clubbing at Chupa Cabra's Cabaret Club. Likes: Drinking, getting laid, clubbing, his daughter Maka and his wife, and turning little girls into sluts. That, and baby bloomers.

Video Games[edit]

fear the Makachop, FEAR IT!

Soul Eater became so popular it eventually engulfed the video game world just as Oprah engulfs fried chickens. After going through all them I have found most to be sex games, with a few exceptions. Soul Eater: Plot of Mahboi is an action game produced by Namco Bandai Games for the Sintendo D: and was released on October 23, 2008. Soul Eater: Battle Resonance Fair is a fighting game produced by Namco Bandai Games for the GayStation 2 and GayStation Portable and was released on December 12, 2012.
