Saul Goodman, real name James McGill, is a fictional criminal lawyer that appears in the American crime-drama shows Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Due to his creator, Peter Gould's own rampant narcissism and lust for notoriety, he was later brought back in the series Better Call Saul, which is a prequel to Breaking Bad. In this series it is learned that he is the direct descendant of Saint Patrick.

Saul first appeared in "Better Call Saul" (2009), the eighth episode of Breaking Bad's second season, and later appeared in "Breaking Bad" (2022), the eleventh episode of Better Call Saul's sixth season. The identities of the geniuses behind the names of these episodes is shrouded in a deep fog.

Early life[edit]

Jimmy "Irish" McGill was born on Saint Patrick's Day of 1960, in Cicero, Illinois, near Chiraq. Determined not to be poor and gullible like his father, Jimmy began scamming homeless people on the mean streets of his hometown, often preforming "slip-and-fall" accidents to garner sympathy. Before the events of Better Call Saul, Jimmy had two failed marriages, one of which ended when his wife cheated on a man named Chet. Instead of honorably challenging Chet to a duel at high noon in Cicero's town center, Jimmy took the moral high road and defecated through the sunroof of Chet's car, thereby marking the first known instance of a Chicago sunroof.

Some time later, Jimmy had moved to Albuquerque, and put his past of being a con-artist behind him. He began working in the mail room of HHM (Hamlin, Hamlin, McGill), a law-firm which is known best for not being named after Jimmy. Despite the many opportunities to "have stopped him when they had the chance", Jimmy resumed his law education, and acquired a degree from the University of American Samoa's correspondence law school. He passed the bar exam in hopes to be promoted from a peasant mail boy to lawyer at HHM. His brother, Chuck McGill -- The "McGill" in HHM -- convinced his superior, Howard Hamlin -- One of the "Hamlin"s in HHM -- to deny Jimmy the opportunity. The other "Hamlin" in HHM was lost to the sands of time after the Y2K incident.

Slippin' Jimmy[edit]

An animated pre-prequel that was made only to help launder Saul's crystal meth money, and to show that shortly before Better Call Saul, Jimmy became a public defender (which is not a soccer goalkeeper who plays in public).

Better Call Saul[edit]

Nacho Varga, as he appears in Better Call Saul's first season.

A few years later, Jimmy is remarkably unhappy with having become a public defender due to his greed and the low-paying nature of the job. He hoped to represent the county treasurer, Craig Kettleman and his cuck wife Betsy, who have been accused of embezzling over $1.6 million. This of course is a crime, yet Jimmy is the only one between the three which seems to have noticed.

Not liking the cut of Jimmy's jib, the Kettlemans take their case to HHM. Their punishment of Jimmy's rampant greed consisted of sending the Mexican Cartel after him. What the cartel didn't know is that they couldn't legally kidnap Jimmy without his permission (a fact that he learned during law school), and thus had to let him go. One of the Cartel's members, Nacho Varga planned to rob the Kettlemans after learning about them from Jimmy.

Jimmy anonymously warns the Kettlemans of Nacho's plan, saving them from the same kidnapping that they might not have the foresight to not consent to. Due to his warning, the Kettlemans staged their disappearance, and because Nacho is Mexican, he is arrested for what appeared to be their kidnapping. Jimmy then attempts to preform a Triple Reach-Around, and defends Nacho in court, shortly before discovering where the Kettlemans had run off to and forcing Craig to accept a plea deal.

After developing severed PTSD from the cartel kidnapping, Jimmy turned to elder law, and began scamming the elderly. Contrary to popular belief, this form of scamming is morally justifiable, as most old people don't have souls. Chuck hated the fact that Jimmy was a lawyer, believing deep down that his brother was still a scam artist. Jimmy feared that Chuck would figure out that he was scamming the elderly, and that Chuck would have him disbarred. To avoid this, Jimmy turned to arson, which is a crime, and burnt Chuck's house down while he was inside.

Breaking Bad[edit]

When eight seasons of the prequel show finally ends, Saul now finds himself colluding with Walter White and Jesse Pinkman for five seasons. After Walter's death and Jesse's spin-off movie, Saul finds himself in a black and white prison, as opposed to a normal prison which usually only holds African-Americans.

Release from prison[edit]

After serving three life sentences, Saul is released from prison and becomes discount John Wick named Nobody.
