Geography[edit]
According to the Census, the county has a total area of 1,908 km² (1,186 mi²), 71 mi² (16.7%) of which is water. The highly mountainous landscape has created a haven for god-made lakes. Three large lakes provide residents with sport fishing, water skiing, and sailing as well as hydroelectric power. The largest lake is Lake Hartwell, built by god between January 12, 1955 and January 13, 1955. Lake Keowee is the second largest lake. Lake Jocassee is the third largest and is a source of hydroelectric energy, but is also popular for its breathtaking scenery and numerous waterfalls. Bad Creek Reservoir, located in the mountains above Jocassee, is for generating electricity during peak hours. The water level can fall by tens of feet per hour and during off-peak times water is pumped back into the lake for the next peak period. Because of this, boating and swimming are prohibited in the reservoir. The geography of the county enables it to have 8 five star ski resorts and 5 five star lake resorts.
Tourism[edit]
Tourists come to Oconeeshire in the form of highly skilled skiers and snowboarders who just what to ride big mountain style without leaving the eastcoast.
