Forum:I have a cunning plan...
Those of you with StumbleUpon, have you ever noticed that seemingly every third or fourth page you stumble onto is an article from Cracked? I probably wouldn't even read Cracked if SU didn't bring up two or three of their articles a day. Now, this got me thinking (and this is where the "cunning plan" bit comes in): what if we somehow made Uncyclopedia more likely to be stumbled upon? It would greatly increase both our exposure to random internet people and, by extension, our user base. I therefore submit something along the lines of the following:
1. Every active Uncylopedia user that gives a shit should sign up for an SU account.
2. Every Ucyclopedia user with a SU account should then "like" every single worthwhile page on Uncyclopedia.
3.That's basically it, really. The fact that our entire site will be "liked" by multiple people on the internet's biggest timewaster will eventually bring in both more traffic and more fresh writers. Probably.
So, any thoughts? —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 05:38, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
- And more vandals too! Woohoo!
- Exactly! Socky gets the picture. —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 06:02, February 3, 2011 (UTC)

- I don't understand. We should sign up there and then 'like' every single worthwhile page here? So we sign up there and do nothing? Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 10:06, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
- But I don't like any pages on Uncyclopedia, they're all full of swearing, disease and rap music. --ChiefjusticeDS 10:09, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
It's actually a pretty great idea
When The fact that you don't want a poodle got listed on StumbleUpon and Reddit, it was getting more hits than the main page for about three days. It was also being vandalized approximately once every twenty minutes. I don't know about a mass-liking on SU, but it would certainly be a good idea to present them with our FA on a daily basis. Might even help with our severe user attrition problem. 22:28, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
- Exactly. —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 05:09, February 4, 2011 (UTC)
- I joined, but I am not able to find you on there. I submitted my last FA; it's had about 4 views in 6 hours. Wow!!
- StumbleUpon claims that The fact that you don't want a poodle has been viewed 81,000 times. I guess in the grand scheme of the internet that isn't that much, but still. I practically shit a brick earlier today when I saw that Metal Gear Solid had 15,000 SU views. It's like, "holy shit, people have actually read my stuff." —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 05:17, February 4, 2011 (UTC)
- Also, my SU name is "EABenoit," which is a lot close to my real name than "Guildensternenstein," if you can believe it. —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 05:18, February 4, 2011 (UTC)
- So, I got StumbleUpon, but I can't "discover" anything. It opens this other screen and when I press "Submit" it goes blank and fails to do anything.
- I've been having that problem recently too, actually. I'm not sure why, though. —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 17:49, February 5, 2011 (UTC)
- They're blocking Uncyclopedians. You can't really blame them. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 18:11, February 5, 2011 (UTC)
- Whelp, there goes my cunning plan. —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 02:19, February 6, 2011 (UTC)
- Actually, I don't know how accurate this is, but it might explain some stuff: http://highfade.com/2008/10/09/stumbleupon-dos-and-donts-for-new-bloggers/ —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 02:22, February 6, 2011 (UTC)
- I went to go create a new account only to be told that I already have an account! On an unrelated note, according to my homepage, uncyclopedia has 65k hits. Pirate Lord__Sonic80 (Yell • Latest literary excretion) __ 02:38, February 6, 2011 (UTC)
- I also find it hilarious that UnMovie Review:Inception (2010) is classified under the "alcoholic drinks" category on stumbleupon. Pirate Lord__Sonic80 (Yell • Latest literary excretion) __ 02:40, February 6, 2011 (UTC)
- Apparently, this and this are pornography. —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 20:23, February 6, 2011 (UTC)
- I've done some testing, and I'm pretty sure it's the ".com" part in our domain that gets the site blocked from further discovering. Uncyclopedias in other languages that use ".org" don't get blocked after mass-liking. On a related note, as StumbleUpon identifies our site as "wikia.com", the block will affect all sites with "wikia.com" in their domain. And let there be no doubt about it, once you get your Uncyclopedia discover abilities blocked, it's permanent. Not that that has to be a problem. You can just create a new account and start anew. It might be possible to avert getting blocked by discovering some non-Uncyclopedia stuff in between. Just liking other stuff in between isn't enough, as I've experienced.
- Hmmm, makes sense I guess. —Unführer Guildy Ritter von Guildensternenstein 05:57, February 7, 2011 (UTC)
- So... it turns out the block expires after a day or two. And it turns out the block's activated after you've discovered about 11 pages on the same site. So, not exactly what I said earlier, yeah...
- There are eleven pages on Uncyclopedia? That's eleven too many! Burn it all! Who is with me?! Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 00:59, February 22, 2011 (UTC)
- That depends. What's it made out of? What colour will it be? Perhaps we should crush it instead.
