I think we need to have a big competition like they used to where all the active users can submit articles and a panel of judges (probably admins) chooses the best ones in each category. Sounds like a great idea to me. What do you think? Sir ScottPat (talk) 13:30, May 18, 2013 (UTC)
- Competition is a great idea ... Though im not sure where the admins being judges came from. Thats not part of their mandate. The more different users participate in every stage of the competition the better. What kind of competition are you thinking of? --ShabiDOO 02:49, May 19, 2013 (UTC)
- We all write an article for this competition and then they are judged to find out which one is the best in each category like: humour, images, satire etc. The winners of the categories get a special template and so does the overall winner and they are judged with scores out of 50 like pee reviews. - Perhaps it could be limited to a particular UnProject? A HowTo or something of that ilk. Competitions are a lot better and more rewarding to get involved with if there's a clearly defined set of limits. Add a particular theme peeps should write about. --TheDarthMoogle (talk) 07:55, May 20, 2013 (UTC)
- Or we could run a PLS. • Puppy's talk page • 04:20 20 May 2013
- Yes this PLS is exactly the sort of thing. Can we organise one for June 2013? That would be great and perfect for getting the community to come out and show off our finest work. Competition produces good quality stuff. Do you know who I should ask to get it organised? Sir ScottPat (talk) 17:20, May 20, 2013 (UTC)

Judges
Before we get on to running the competition we need to sort out administrative things. We need some judges. How many and who shall they be? Sir ScottPat (talk) 18:45, May 26, 2013 (UTC)
- Early June is probably a little soon. For the pls there are templates and what not to update. It might be a good idea to advertise it for three weeks or four to get some extra interest. Getting passing visitors to participate will likely draw in a new writer or two so again, advertising a little longer might accomplish that. Take a look at this pls page to see what is involved. And look at the history of the last competition to see the different pages at different stages of the competition as it is heavily edited through-out. You might look at the scoring page too. There is a fairly standard format and sometimes changes are made...but mostly only merging two categories into one or dividing categories into two, if judges can participate or not and if there is an award or not. E three of us and anyone else who likes could talk about that on a forum for example.
Here is the last Poo lit surprise page. --ShabiDOO 21:54, May 26, 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks Shabidoo for the support. I will have a look at the Poo Lit Surprise page now. We should run it in late June then, sorry. Also how do I advertise it apart from making this forum? Sir ScottPat (talk) 07:55, May 27, 2013 (UTC)
- PS - What specific templates need updating? I think I'll move the current PLS page with the last winners to an archive and write up the format of the competition. Sir ScottPat (talk) 08:04, May 27, 2013 (UTC)
- I don't have permission to edit the PLS page. I'll ask Spike or Romartus for permission. Sir ScottPat (talk) 08:11, May 27, 2013 (UTC)
- It's usually locked by an admin once a competition is completed. Once we decide to run it again the permissions are altered. Can I suggest that you look back at the history of the page - particularly at the edits where we have started the competition anew. The rules for PLS are simple, and too many changes would be a poor idea - we've gotten to the current format by trial and error. As for the advertising - once the page has been cleaned up and is ready for a new competition to be held, we usually advertise it in the site banner. Questions and feedback work on the PLS talk page. The reason I suggested running a PLS as opposed to creating a new competition is that there is a sense of tradition behind PLS. Shabby has run the Happy Monkey in the past, and I've run the Pee Buddy awards, so both of us know a few of the dangers in running competitions if you need advice along the way. • Puppy's talk page • 08:24 27 May 2013
- Thanks Puppy. I have just asked Romartus for permission to edit the PLS page. I have offered to run it as no one else will but I said he could run it (or someone else) if he wanted to. I appreciate any help though. Can I still participate if I run it? Sir ScottPat (talk) 08:27, May 27, 2013 (UTC)
- The only restriction I'm aware of is judges can't be entrants. • Puppy's talk page • 12:49 27 May 2013
- Ok. Well Romartus has offered to run it anyway. Thanks. Sir ScottPat (talk) 12:50, May 27, 2013 (UTC)
- Perhaps we should consider allowing judges to participate in categories where they aren't judging...in case that might result in more judges and participants....unless we can find enough judges with no desire to write in any category. I think it was done once. If Romartus runs in...it means you can participate...which I think you should Scott. I'm already looking forward to it.--ShabiDOO 13:18, May 27, 2013 (UTC)
