Basically we need to increase the amount of visitors to those pages and draw attention to them. How about adding two links to the sidebar on the left? I look at that regularly, so do you, it'll remind people and may draw attention to those pages for newer users and people who usually just can't be bothered. BonSig.png (Bonner) (Talk) Feb 1, 07:49

How about erecting some monument of some kind, like Nelson's Column? Least we forget.... -- Sir Mhaille Icons-flag-gb.png (talk to me)

Yeah, links at the side would definitely make more people look at it. It would attract unsavoury people too, but I think somehow that's a sacrifice uncyc would be willing to make. :P Yew know what would be a better incentive? Money for VFH votes. xD ~Fag x FS

I think that might be putting perhaps too much focus on VFH and VFD, when people should be encouraged to possibly, y'know, write articles and such? Spang talk 10:34, 01 Feb 2008

You mean the site ISN'T set up to polish the collective egos of the most active 5% of users? Jeez....I'm going to have to think about this one. So, and this is just a crazy "out there" kind of idea, we should maybe focus on helping people to "write articles" in some way? -- Sir Mhaille Icons-flag-gb.png (talk to me)
Write articles? I thought we paid people for that. They must be on strike. -- Kip > Talk Works Sophia Commander of the Order USA! 11:02, Feb. 1, 2008
  • Dear Bonner: There is stuff in my javascript that makes it so that under "Recent Changes" in my navigation bar, the next three links are "VFH", "VFP", "VFD". I doubt whatever I covered up are used by most active users (although I did have to add "Random Page" to my toolbox, although I use it less anyway). Go ahead an either take the code, or get some java-person to make some for you/everybody to paste into their javascript. Its all handy and dandy and what not. The End. -- Brigadier General Sir Zombiebaron 04:46, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Sigh...

Can we figure out a way to have VFH & VFP appear on our watchlists again? I hate to keep asking. I really do. I blame it on my shoes. They're too tight. Also, the velcro makes a "shit!" sound when I take them off. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 17:26, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Meh, I came up with this about ten minutes before I went to school this morning, I didn't really expect for it to come to any fruition. BonSig.png (Bonner) (Talk) Feb 1, 18:18

I hate to say this, but Modus' shoes don't match his sash. Also, he's right. It'd be REALLY nice if VFH/VFD showed up on our watchlists.--<<Bradmonogram.png>> 23:06, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
VFD still does show up on watchlists, or atleast mine. But having VFH show up there would also be nice. Someone should ask one of those wikia bums if they can throw some code into it to make it happen. There probably is some way to do it without changing all of VFH.--Lieutenant THEDUDEMAN Dude ... Totally UOTM KUN GotA F@H 23:28, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
I think he meant VFP. He's got a cold. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 23:36, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm not well. Plus, the D and the P are right next to each other on the keyboard.--<<Bradmonogram.png>> 23:40, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

I've been thinking about this for a while, and it's not possible in the traditional way, as you can only watch individual pages, and there's no single central page that actually changes when a vote is made. The closest at the moment would be something like Special:Recentchangeslinked/Uncyclopedia:VFH/summary which shows changes to VFH nominations, but also changes to the pages that are nominated, and each nomination's most recent voter's userpage. You can't get that page to appear on watchlists though. Some solutions:

  1. Use a javascript something-or-other to add a VFH bit to the watchlist page (someone might write it, but people would have to add the JS themselves)
  2. Use a bot to automatically edit the VFH page with a relevant summary when a vote is made, bumping the VFH page on watchlists (would only work as long as someone ran it on a computer that was on 24/7, and would make maintaining the VFH page more annoying)
  3. An IRC bot that announces VFH voting (still off-wiki and not in watchlists though)
  4. Write an extension and convince wikia to install it (no chance of anyone writing it, let alone installing it)
  5. Revert VFH to the old one-page-fits-all system (I'd cry)

I'll think about the JS one, the others stand little to no chance of happening, but suggestions are welcome. Spang talk 09:22, 02 Feb 2008

I don't see anything wrong with putting a link to vfh on the sidebar underneath Pee Review. It may attract some idiots to the voting page, but at the same time it encourages users to read a bunch of high-quality articles and that's a damn good way for them to improve their own writing.
Alternatively, an admin could just add a comma, or something to the page once every three days. -- 15Mickey20 (talk to Mickey)  19:34, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
I like Mickey's idea. Plus, it wouldnt be that hard to do, just have one of the admins change one of the media-wiki pages.--Lieutenant THEDUDEMAN Dude ... Totally UOTM KUN GotA F@H 19:38, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
In the meantime, Special:Recentchangeslinked/Category:VFH_nomination shows you Recent Changes in relation to VFH, without all those excess pages Spang mentioned that appear on Special:Recentchangeslinked/Uncyclopedia:VFH/summary.  Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize  writings  SU&W) 19:56 Feb 02, 2008

Proposal: Free Cookies to all voters on VFH and VFD

Score: +5 soft, moist, warm, chocolate chip cookies... mmm...

A few ideas

I think requiring a certain number of VFH votes to get on WotM or UotM would be a great way to encourage participation. In addition, we can have 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-place awards for the top voters in any given month. A third idea: require that you've made a certain number of votes on other VFH entries before nominating. I'm also for adding VFH and VFD links to the "Community" section of the sidebar. --Sir Starnestommy Icons-flag-us.png (TalkContribsCUN) 21:06, Feb. 2, 2008

Requirements? Maybe. Sidebar? Why not? The only thing I've got to disagree with here is no more awards, please.  Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize  writings  SU&W) 21:11 Feb 02, 2008

So, every time I suggest making requirements for something, everyone's all "No! We don't wanna become all beaurocratic and Wikipedia-like." but once Starnes suggests something, they're all "That's a brilliant idea!" and "Have my children!" Admit it, you people like him more than you like me.--<<Bradmonogram.png>> 22:03, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
That's mostly due to Starnes' windswept hair and devil-may-care attitude. People get lost in his deep, hazel eyes. Well, not the lazy eye. Also, see below. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 22:06, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
No requirements. Sidebar, ok. Win/place/show awards, *shrug*. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 22:04, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
I think WotM would work well with that, but UotM is meant for the best Uncyclopedian of the month, which means that contributions other than featured articles and featured images are useful. Being the best anti-vandal in Uncyclopedia is good enough to win. WotM is made for successful writers, which really means being featured a lot is important. Marshal Uncyclopedian! Talk to me!
I think Starnes meant that you have to vote to get an award. Thinking about it, I feel somewhat wishy-washy about that. Who counts the votes? What about abstaining? Fors? Againsts? Seems like a lot of unnecessary bureaucracy to me. And the new awards...we have so many already... Still, I strongly support putting VFH and VFD on the sidebar. - P.M., WotM, & GUN, Sir Led Balloon Baloon.gif(Tick Tock) (Contribs) 23:24, Feb 2
