Wow, I leave this site for one day and everyone goes crazy. Having read the extensively long VFS forum post, I'd like to propose several possible solutions that I HOPE will solve this issue.

Step 1: Enough fake campaigning

I know that Ape on Thursdays and EMC have been completely joking about their campaigns to make users admins, but I still think we need to stop it. Even if it's fake, campaigning implies that VFS is A. Guaranteed to happen next month B. A contest between users and C. A reward. It's none of those things (OK, it's sort of a contest, but it's a contest based on merit), and I'm rather sick of us going in with the attitude that becoming an admin is a coveted award that all should strive for. In short, I don't think we should even talk about it until the admins vote on whether or not to have it on Saturday.

Which brings me to number 2...

Step 2: Shut the hell up about VFS

The more we talk about it, the more people will be trying to kiss every admin's ass in the hopes that they will support them in the final round, and the more new users get the impression that VFS is the ultimate goal in any user's time on Uncyclopedia. Basically, I don't think we should mention it at all until August 1st, because, as several users pointed out, all talking about it does is give users false hope and distract us from the real issues on this site.

Step 3: Let the admins worry about it

While us regular users definitely have a say in how this site works, I think, from our vantage point, there are a lot of things that we can't see. If the admins themselves say that they're not overwhelmed and that the site is running smoothly, do we really know more then they do? Bottom line: TKF will bring it up on the 1st, and when and if nominations happen, that is when we get a say. Until then, we need to go about our regular business, revert vandalism when we see it, and use QVFD and Ban Patrol when necessary.

Finally...

Step 4: De-op inactive admins

I think one of the reasons people are somewhat irked about the current state of affairs regarding VFS is that any user could leave the site within days of being opped, and they could still keep their admin powers indefinitely. Take Famine, for example-I think it's pretty obvious that he's never going to edit again, so does he still need his admin powers? This is an optional step, but I think implementing it could remove a lot of tension and animosity.

Optional Step 5: Give me cookies

Because I'm hungry. Seriously. Fork 'em over.

Thoughts?

Without reading it closely, which I'll do later, and without being an admin and having no say, I'd second your motion of cropping back the ops. Many of them haven't edited in over a year or more, and some of these may have been among the mislabeled in Arlington for all we know. Is ops like the United States Supreme Court, lifetime appointments? I dunno. But getting rid of all of those dead or missing ops should help a bit in the process. Aleister 23:55 30 7
I don't see the big deal about de-oping inactive admins, but if that's what the people want....
Other than that, I don't think that the solutions to stop talking about VFS are going to work. If people have it on their minds that they want to, no one around here can stop them from talking about it. It just is what it is. People can call for more/new admins. It might seem trivial to some, but I think it is somewhat important to at least let them have their say on the matter.
Last point: I dunno if people think that being opped is a reward (I'm sure some do. But not everyone.). I think it's just more of a validation that A. they are a valued member of the community, and B. they have put in a lot of work around here, and people have noticed. It should be considered an honor that your fellow users consider you valuable enough as a user, that they think you will be more valuable as an admin. Sure the way we honor them is to throw them into a bubbling pool of horse manure, but it is an honor none the less.
I am not saying some of your words don't have merit; they do. But, as in life, there are other sides to everything. Woody On Fire! Wood burning.gifTalking Woody Stalking Woody 01:51, July 31, 2010 (UTC)

Most of the comments above, along with several others have been discussed at length several times already, including fairly recently... -- Sir Mhaille Icons-flag-gb.png (talk to me)

I've realized

That this is stupid. It's dumb to have passionate arguments about things that haven't happened yet, and may not happen for months.

There. Argument over.--HM (T)

You're just saying that 'cause you want to be an admin. --Black Flamingo 09:33, July 31, 2010 (UTC)

When it switches back to Vote For Sandwiches, can we campaign for that?
