2015 rewrite[edit]
Chunkles has returned and cleared away some cruft from the middle of Section 1. (See our conversation on his talk page and at VFD.) I rewrote that section along existing lines. But the Intro is complete crap and needs a rewrite, but one with a comedy concept in mind that has not yet occurred to me. Spıke 🎙️05:00 29-Dec-15
That is what it needed! Only, there is now a bit of History in the Intro, which feels as though it wants to become a subsection of History. It is not incompatible with the Swearingen history that was there originally, so it would not be an awful "alternative theories" list. I've struck my VFD nomination and closed the ballot. Now: Needs pix. Spıke 🎙️14:20 29-Dec-15
- I'll take care of that and perhaps a little more work on the text. The actual swearing probably needs to go and replaced by something cleverer. EStop ⚓ 14:45, December 29, 2015 (UTC)
- Did you know that cunt was an old seafaring term for a type of splice? It is to join two ropes together on a log line. Rather than taking the three strands and tucking from the ends, there is an overlap of the two ropes and they are spliced past the ends. This results in a shape that resembles a erm... anyway, they changed it to "cut splice" as filthy land lubbers only have one thing on their minds. EStop ⚓ 14:56, December 29, 2015 (UTC)

PS--The lexical analysis of swearing is trying to do what Sterling Johnson "(and a distinguished panel of experts)" do better, and much more completely, in English as a Second F*cking Language (St. Martin's Griffin). Spıke 🎙️15:12 29-Dec-15
- So do I! Is that title for real? No need to answer, I'll google. It will be a good source. EStop ⚓ 15:29, December 29, 2015 (UTC)
It is black-and-white on the inside. Listen, if you are going to keep the line about the Queen both knighting and beheading (personally?) the elder Swearingen, this seems a better explanation for the son's abrupt change of destiny than that he just wandered away. Otherwise, do some more inventing. Spıke 🎙️16:42 29-Dec-15
